with the UN, NATO WTO, and all those other rich boys clubs, if the us govt fell, would there really be a change? would there be chaos and violence? or would we go seemlessly into the next stage of human "evolution": creating a planet wide empire. just get rid of the violent troublemakers, add economic control on populace, and you have: one planet, under god, indivisible.....
how does that sound?
it has nothing to do with bush, it WILL happen eventually, whther under libs or conservatives, so dont bring that in here.

In case you guys didn't realize, we live in AMERICA! We are supposed to be able to voice our opinions without the consequence of morons assuming we hate our country or troops.
With your dissenting from this unique principle of our country, you would be better suited living in a dictatorship. I suppose that's why you abandoned your traditional conservative values of having a small government and support Bush's absolutely enormous rise in power during wartime.

p.s. YOU must be the ones who hate America and most of its citizens. You criticise those who criticise the President...and look at our president's approval rating--->about 33% now. You are the minority barking at the moral majority.

I hear people saying that the government doesn't represent the people's interest. But when half of us don't even bother to vote, who is it that really isn't filling their role in this representative democracy?

Israel?

Do people even realize that if US troops leave Iraq & complete chaos breaks out, not only in Iraq but throughout the Mideast, that Israel will be in grave danger? What's more important to you: US troops or Israeli security?

I think that US troops should stay in Iraq for as long as Israel feels they are needed there for Israel's protection. Is not Israel America's greatest ally?

terrorism is a tactic used by deranged desperate people. there is no military win against a tactic and ideology of hate.every time the president says we will win the war on terror it reveals a ignorance and arrogance that makes me shake my head in disbelief. why would any thinking person agree with bush's ideas and plans for america. even if i were a conservative republican i would not support this administration. only reasonable thoughtful answers as to why you think this war on iraq and terror (however you define that) is the prudent course of action to risk lives on. 2 of the worst arguments that i hope not to hear are "we had to something after 9/11 and were fighting them ther so we won't fight them here. any good ideas i'm missing

Israel even has submarines w/ Nuclear missiles on board in the Persian gulf, so if Iran were to be stupid enough to attack Israel w/ nuclear weapons the Israeli Navy would wipe out Iran (& Iran isn't going to attack the US w/ a nuke) so what is the point of the US invading Iran? Because Israel would rather have US troops do it than their own troops?

How long will it take them to understand that the counter culture of that time didn't accomplish anything;except perhaps the prolonging of the Vietnam conflict? Will they ever be able to understand that the working class in this country had to overcome their abhorance of the counter culture before they stood up and demanded an end to Vietnam? Do they really believe that Jane Fonda's little vacation in Vietnam did anything, but alienate the real people of this country, the working class, and prolonged that war? I think that both the extreme left and the extreme right are destroying this country. But the extreme right is obviously more intelligent than the extreme left: because they have concluded that they have to appeal to the middle to be successful. Both extremes are extremely arrogant in their beliefs. But the extreme left is extremely incompetent as well.

I'm sure conservatives believe the Bush administration.
But wasn't it to protect Karl Rove? When asked for evidence to back up their claim, they weren't even able to produce any documentation of this against Harriet Miers.
Then the Bush administration began claiming they have "hazy memories" (Scooter Libby come to mind?).

Even Gonzales says that Karl Rove asked him about firing those attorneys, in which Gonzales replied that he thought it would be a bad idea. Straight from his mouth.
Conclusive evidence against Rove, none against Miers. Not consistant with what the Bush administration tells us.

So, do you think believe the government blamed Harriet Miers in order to protect their precious Karl Rove?

the actual threat danger, the acts themselves...the fact that our country has been held hostage by it for decades, but moreso in the last 6 years. when attacked did we respond appropriately? or was this war the beginning of something we didnt want? our military is just that, a military, should they really be fighting civilians with guns? do we need a whole new force? how much can halliburton charge for that? the whole thing just leaves a bad taste..... your thoughts on the whole thing?

It seems like many people in the United States use the Daily Show and the Colbert Report as their primary sources of news. Do Stuart and Colbert have a real influence over how they think because they edit hour long speeches and interviews down to a ten second, out of context clip that makes our President look like an idiot?

And please don't respond that it is just comedy, because people do take what Colbert and Stuart say as news rather than comedy.

Al Gore Jr. received more than $500,000 in royalties from the owners of zinc mines who held mineral leases on his farm near Carthage, Tenn. Now the mines have a new owner and are scheduled to reopen later this year.

Before the mines closed in 2003, they emitted thousands of pounds of toxic substances and several times, the water discharged from the mines into nearby rivers had levels of toxins above what was legal.
