The Senate rejected a constitutional amendment to ban gay marriage by a wide margin Wednesday, delivering a stinging defeat to Bush and other Republicans who had hoped the issue would rally GOP voters for the November elections.

The senators' vote was 49-48 to limit debate and bring the amendment to a yes-or-no decision. That was 11 short of the 60 needed, killing the measure in the Senate for this year.

Most bitter to the amendments' authors was the loss of support in their own GOP caucus.

kindergarden. They spend half our lives, telling us to take naps, and "Please be quiet children". Then fast foward 10 years and for the rest of our lives we are told to stay awake. I once read a quote that said, "Pain is inevitable, Suffering is optional. The Middle East is a glorious place, why do we have to overgeneralize and discriminate against them. That damn, we as well as the rest of the planet are too dependent upon artifical, or say material items that we neglect to recognize the true spirit of humanity. Death is an inescapable part of life, but should we learn to love one another when that ultimate time comes, we may just recognize true glory and courage. So stay awake and participate in life, for you never know when the last momen will be. Why can't we all just get along?

AP) Fourteen European nations colluded with U.S. intelligence in a "spider's web" of secret flights and detention centers that violated international human rights law, the head of an investigation into alleged CIA clandestine prisons said Wednesday.

Swiss Senator Dick Marty said the nations aided the movement of 17 detainees who said they had been abducted by U.S. agents and secretly transferred to detention centers around the world.

Some said they were transferred to the U.S. detention center at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, and others to alleged secret facilities in countries including Poland, Romania, Egypt and Jordan. Some said they were mistreated or tortured.

"I have chosen to adopt the metaphor of a global spider's web, a web that has been spun out incrementally over several years using tactics and techniques that had to be developed in response to new threats of war," Marty said.

Marty provided no direct evidence but charged that most European government

The Town Road has washed out my driveway and exposed the cement pillars to the side door deck. When I go into the driveway the car muffler hits. My Mother-In-Law broke her foot getting off the bottom step of the deck into the ravine caused by the water running off the Town Road. They have been putting gravel down from the Rd. to the steps but it keeps washing into the back yard. When the house was built it was up to grade. They said we need to get it up to grade again, but it will only wash out again, due to the Town Rd. They do not want to fix it. Is the Town responsible to fix this problem?

Anne Coulter says
Women should not be allowed to vote...
But SHE does!

And then the dumb blonde can't even figure out
WHICH precinct is hers!

A poll worker reported to his supervisors that he saw Coulter try to vote in the precinct closest to her Palm Beach home. But when she was told the address on her voter's registration was elsewhere, Coulter ran out instead of correcting it and ended up voting in a precinct that wasn't hers. Knowingly voting in the wrong precinct in Florida is a felony.

Coulter Accused Of Voter Felony.

"An Inconvient Truth" is a movie where former Vice President Al Gore explains why the world must take steps to counter Global Warming. Another documentary directed by Chris Paine called "Who Killed the Electric Car?" (coming to theatres June 30) also explains the issue of Global warming and may point out how Gore's withdrawl from politics allowed the Bush Adminstration, Big Oil, Big Auto, and the status quo to discard policies such as the Clinton Adminstration's Partnership for a New Generation of Vehicles (PNGV) in favor of gas guzzling SUVs. My question is, if Al Gore is so concerned about the environment, why did he quit supporting campaigns to make sure that the Bush Adminstration upheld environmental policies such as PNGV? Secondly, where are our electric cars? Finally the big question: Why can we not find ANY parts to build our own electric generators and electric motors not even for a simple high school science experiment?

How can people inhabiting the same planet come up with such wildly divergent interpretations of what's happening? Why do some people tend to have conservative sympathies, others liberal? It's not just class - there are poor and rich conservatives, and there are poor and rich liberals. It's not just upbringing, or intelligence, or level of education, or experience, or race, or gender. What, then, causes a person to move towards one point of view or another?
