I'm not a liberal but I am against the gay marriage amendment. I think Bush has to start pandering to the whole country rather than the Ann Coulters of the world.

Same thing they always do, whine about the liberal agenda destroying America. I'm proud to say that BOTH of my Republican senators voted against it.
edit:
Constitutional amendments require a 2/3 majority if I'm not mistaken. 49-48 is not even close. It is, for those of us who've read the Constitution, not already mentioned and, as such, covered by the 10th Amendment. It's an issue for the states.

Is anybody surprised? This was just a sop to the right, to take people's minds of what *really* matters in the country. Nobody in the Senate thought it would pass, either.
War, deficit, health insurance, corruption and scandal, unemployment--these are apparently minor problems to the administration.
