Man we have become soft as a country, back in the pre-vietnam days there would be no sympathy for a man who raped peoples wives at a whim, had people shot and then charged the family for the bullet, gassed thousands of citizens to quiet them, planned to assasinate a US president, started wars with his neighbors kuwait and Iran, wanted nuclear and bioliogical chemical weapons, and although not proven planned to blow up world trade center, I mean come on people, open your eyes, Saddam was a bad man, history will remember him as a evil tyrant. So why is there such outcry for an evil tyrant? I think these people just hate america and should leave on the first flight out.

The former killed more Iraqis in 3 years than the latter did in more than 30 years. That's without mentioning the 3,000 American soldiers killed (and ten times more injured), or other civil casualties in Afganistan or indirectly (through indiscriminate support to Israel) in Lebanon, Gaza etc...

Sure, he probably was a nice guy and such. Maybe the news refers to every president who dies as "great". But is it warranted for this particular president? What did he do (never mind the pardoning of Nixon)?

How are we any better than him?

We are pleased to give him a punishment we won't even give to our worst child killers - the death penalty.

It may all be happening in Iraq but the British helped it all happen.
Do you think Blair should step in and stop the execution?

I'm worried that a hanging will glorify his death and lead to him becoming a martyr. The point of a public hanging is to dissuade people from doing what he did, and showing the consequences. But I don't think that will have an effect in this case since Muslims/Arabs seem to not care if they die for their cause.

I think lethal injection would have been the way to go in this case since it does not appear as "glorious" as a hanging.

Of course, the best way would have been to kill him in secret a while ago and then claim he died of a heart attack while imprisoned.

Your opinions?

I say he wont die. Knowing the support he has in Iraq, something will happen and he will be kidnapped only to surface a few years later more powerful, more victorious, brutally put his big boots down on those who opposed him. History will be re-written.

How many of you think this way?

The man that caused so much suffering to so many people will finally be gone. I am sickened to read so many reviews online of people who actually believe he shouldn't be executed. How could anyone take up for such an evil man? Don't you think we should all be greatful to our great president for accomplishing such a thing? This makes me proud to have voted for George Bush.

A variation on a common question here on Mr Hussain. I think that rather like that 20th hijacker the americans, who are after all really in control, don't really want to kill him, but keep him out of power in jail. But they want to prove to the world that they could kill him if they want to.
The reason they don't want to kill him is that they don't want to turn him into a martyr.
