There are two types of hanging. The 'humane' (British) way is the 'long drop'. The person is killed instantly by having their neck broken. Throughout the Middle East, they use the 'short drop' where the person is dropped just a few inches and deliberately made to suffer slow hanging. It takes about 20 -30 minutes and is horrendous. I shall not describe what the person's face looks like afterwards, but it's not for the faint-hearted.
Unfortunately for Saddam, it might be even worse. If he's hanged by the Americans, they will use the 'long drop' but with the knot under the right ear. As the knot moves exactly 90 degrees clockwise at the end of the drop, the knot pulls up at the back of his neck and slowly strangles the person. The executioner (often completely untrained) then pulls on the person's legs to hasten death. This has (look away now) been known to actually remove the person's head. This happened to a woman in the USA in 1935.
The British way is with the knot under the left ear. This causes the knot to be under the chin at the end of the drop and snaps the spine instantly. When the Nazis were hanged at the end of the war, they BEGGED to be hanged by the British executioner, Albert Pierrepoint and not by the Americans. Sadly for them, some were hanged by the US and most victims died horribly.

well, he ruled iraq with absolute ruthless. as far as public knows he has killed or hanged his each and every opponent. plus the use of chemical wepon which is banned by the UN on the kurds and the iranians. and not to mension his sons. even today it is a shame for the world that he was allowed to do that without any resistant from rest of the world. he should have beed thrown out of crown long ago. but as far as i concern, as a human right, its better to give him injection than to hang him. the only problem is, in beaurocracy, opinion of general public never count. its all predecided drama, and all we can do is to watch

I think most people would want to see him suffer at least a little bit. With hanging there is always the chance that the noose will not work properly, and instead of a quick neck break, with luck he might choke to death. Hope so anyway.

Give me a break!
Easier? Quicker?
I say put the man in a noose, hang him from a tree and slowly pull the ladder from under him ~ let him suffer until his breath is no more!
Why are you being sensitive to his situation? He is the Devil!

Hanging is the current method of execution in Iraq, I am sure if they had the lethal injection method they would use it.

Because he'd make a good Christmas ornament.
SORRY, I know that was in very bad taste, but the man is a mass-murdering despot who has committed numerous atrocities. That's why he's being hanged.

differtn countries have different ways. Some arab states still stone people to death. Hanging is the way in alot of Arab states and the bodies are usually on public view to remind people of what not to do.

The entire world does not want to see easy and quick here.
tell that to the mothers and fathers who have lost their sons and daughters to this wicked beast.
Slow, painful and full of vengeance is needed here; just as the souls who cry out, after, losing their lives to this murderous mad fiend.

The law governing his execution specifies hanging. Hanging is still an option in some states of the US.

hanging is the standard punishment for his crimes according to the laws of his ppl. i'm sure if it was technically a U.S. matter, it wouldnt be a hanging.
and even though its technically not a US trial..... lets face it, who's pulling the strings here? i have a feeling theres going to be a backlash over this whole mess, and things would go a lot smoother if it was his own ppl that toppled him and executed him... we'll have to wait and see.
