A variation on a common question here on Mr Hussain. I think that rather like that 20th hijacker the americans, who are after all really in control, don't really want to kill him, but keep him out of power in jail. But they want to prove to the world that they could kill him if they want to.
The reason they don't want to kill him is that they don't want to turn him into a martyr.

Mr. Hussain? Why the respect of Mr. here? It's not a matter of "Will he" it is "When he"...No, he's not going to stay in jail, he probably will escape the guards and become another Bin Laden!

you make good points but I think he will be hung as he has now been passed over to the Iraqis who see execution as an acceptable punishment. If Saddam was held in the west, then we wouldn't probably execute him as it would go against the majority of beliefs.
You make a good point about him turning into a martyr - once he's dead I think we will see bigger problems in Iraq and we cannot turn back the clock.
Frankly I wish someone would tell the TRUTH about Iraq - weapons of mass destruction? No way! This war has been about the control of oil fields ... will any politician actually admit to this?

I think they will hang him. If He was released he would regroup with his cronies and more innocents would be killed. Even from the prison cell he could be a threat as radicals would continue to follow him as a living martyr.

Sorry but you are talking rubbish. He won't be a martyr to the masses, and the act of execution is punishment for his crimes, never mind who does or does not want to kill him. Are you an expert on the middle east? No probably not.

I sorry to say that I think he will hang - probably tomorrow. Why sorry? Well, apart from being totally opposed to the death penalty on moral grounds I believe that it will make him a martyr for the 'cause'. It will make matters worse, not better in Iraq and will not promote peace one iota.

This Saddam is clever. Very clever.
Did you hear what he said? "Do not hate America" and then he rambled on like Jesus ' For they know not what they do...etc.."

He is rooting to be a martyr. Clever indeed.

he wil be hanged but he shouldnt, he should be left to rot in a jail sell for the rest of his days. rather than let him take the easy way out.

Yes.He has exhausted all avenues of appeal. He actually asked to be shot as he considers himself a soldier. To his credit he has written a letter to say that his captors should not be blamed for his death.
