Do all the terrorists and insurgents have to be captured or killed for troops to come home or is it that Democracy has to take root before US soldiers can come home? Or both? Or what?

The U.S. military is likely to maintain and may even increase its force of more than 140,000 troops in Iraq through next spring, the top American commander in the region said Tuesday in one of the gloomiest assessments yet of when troops may come home

Gen. John Abizaid, commander of the U.S. Central Command, said military leaders would consider adding troops or extending the Iraq deployments of other units Until sectarian violence spiked early this year, Bush administration officials had voiced hopes that this election year would see significant U.S. troop reductions in what has become a widely unpopular war.
"If it's necessary to do that because the military situation on the ground requires that, we'll do it," Abizaid said of longer deployments. "If we have to call in more forces because it's our military judgment that we need more forces, we'll do it."

We are in a serious dilemma

The canadian who was imprisoned, tortured, etc. for being a terrorist, only to be found completely innocent. Was this:

a) A small price to pay for what must be done to protect ourselves

b) A miscommunication that caused an accident. We should be a bit more careful

c) Something horrible that warrants review into US policies

d) A demonstration of just how inappropriate the US is being, and how far overboard the US has gone

e) An unforgivable demonstration of the evil side of the US government. The US is out of control

Today: August 19, 2006, before UN.

Bush spoke directly to the people of Iran saying America respects Islam, the Iranian nation's rich history and culture and that he looks to a day when the two peoples "can be good friends and close partners in the cause of peace."

That's very different from 2002 when Bush said Iran was part of an "axis of evil."

Most of the Americans do not know or realize that America is a slave of extremely materalistic and cruel people. Their eyes, ears, and minds are stolen by a select media and they have very faulty justice system. Facts:
1) There are far too few newspapers in each state and at times both morning and evening newpapers are in the same building e.g. Kansas City Time and Kansas City Star
2) Even these newspapers have partial ownership of Time and CNN
3) Even the radio stations and TV stations and businesses like Yonkers etc are owned by the similar people. And even apprently Christian Hospitals e.g. Mercy Hospital Des Moines Iowa are owned by the same very people
4) When USS Liberty was deliberatley attacked by Israel (ussliberty.org) President Johnson and Sec. MacNamara did not have courage to help dying Americans. Papa Bush didn't allow press in a ceremony for USS Liberty relatives!
5) Bush is pushed to use USA forces and sources to commit terrorism in Iraq, Afghanistan and Palestine

I saw Condolessa Rice on Good Morning America today with Robin Roberts. Robin Roberts kept asking Condolessa questions about the US's 'image' to other nations and how could we improve it. I say "Who the phuck cares what other nations think of the US!" They are going to hate us no matter how nice or not-nice we appear to be. Our media should be more concerned with more important issues, like the US annexing Iraq and Afghanistan. That would be good news.

does anyone think, the pope should have stood up, against the few extremist, that have taken the muslim faith hostage?

If what the Pope said was a statement of fact...

"african americans have a higher incarceration rate per thousand than whites"

if he had said that...would he be a racist? Or is stating the truth not polictically 'correct'?

News Flash: God is not in a popularity contest, and the Pope does not have to apologize to ANYONE for speaking the truth. We live in a God-less society were everyone and anyone is pissed off about everything, which does not jibe with their own personal agenda.

Even comedians piss people off(and there job is to make people laugh).
