I saw Condolessa Rice on Good Morning America today with Robin Roberts. Robin Roberts kept asking Condolessa questions about the US's 'image' to other nations and how could we improve it. I say "Who the phuck cares what other nations think of the US!" They are going to hate us no matter how nice or not-nice we appear to be. Our media should be more concerned with more important issues, like the US annexing Iraq and Afghanistan. That would be good news.

I understand your view, lol; however, allies to the US are not the countries I am too concerned about. The allies are politically and, in a small sense, militarily involved. The US not need to create appearances for these countries. They have their own agendas. Being an ally to the US can be terroristically risky, but its economic benefits far exceed the risks. I.e., Al-queda threatens weaker countries that side with the US and blow up a subway or two. But trade & security with the US outweighs that. Furthermore, Alqueda will eventually kill themselves off since they are all now suicidal kamakazis. That's what the Japanese did when they knew they were losing.

Lots of good responses here. I can see the benefit of 'benevolent appearance' for world US travelers. However, it does not seem realistic for a country to put so much effort into appearance. Everyone has there own opinion, and not everyone stays current with the news, and the news is hardly ever accurate. I have traveled abroad into friendly countries. I am a US citizen. Some people love me (as a person from the US), others not so much. I say we should not worry about it and just do the right thing economically, militarily, and humanely. The US cannot and never will be able to benefit from superficial appearance.

P.S. Kelly Clarkson, I spelled the word like that intentionally for anti-censoring. Love your last album by the way.

that's just your problem, you don't care what other countries think

How other countries think of the US affects your trade with those countries to start with. The US relies on the Middle East for oil and if the entire Middle East suddenly decided to stop oil exports to the US, you guys would be up the proverbial creek. Plus the US makes billions every year exporting products overseas. If those countries decided to cancel their orders, that's US jobs lost, US businesses bankrupt....

Plus if the US wants help with international issues then you need to start being nice. For example, Britain (my country by the way) is helping your country in Iraq and Afghanistan. If the British public suddenly went anti-American and voted in a Conservative government, the conservatives would withdraw the troops from Iraq and again, you guys would have your nuts in your hand.

What about Americans travelling abroad? If the US image abroad is a negative one, those US tourists could be attacked, kidnapped, killed even?

It's in the US's best interests that the US's image abroad is a good one.

We, as a country, needs to keep good relations in other countries. Think about all the imports we get. Also if we are in a jam or say in a war we want someone to be on our side to help us out. If other countries hate us than they most likely won't be helping out when aide is needed.

No man is an island. The image of the US is important around the world because (even though so many despise us and crap on us), we have "allies" that we need. We cannot stand alone, especially in light of the global terrorist threat.

Because we don't live in an inpenetrable bubble and our people travel around the world and we need to care what other countries think about the US so these travelers can visit as safely as we can make it for them.

because it's only a matter of time before all the third world countries will have their hands on nuclear weapons.. whether they make them themselves or buy them, they'll end up getting them eventually.. once that happens, it's only a matter of time before they sneak some into the US.. I just hope the world doesn't still hate us when that happens! :(

Um... no.
We don't have enough money or military to buy/take over everyone who disagrees with us. We need their good opinions of us to get them to do what we want. And maybe to even influence their populace to follow our ways.
