Excellent Question. In my opinion, religion has taught us not to question, as well as that the men will be the leaders, interestingly this is all to the advantage of the leaders in charge. Also, to follow the leaders of the country. The rich rule the world. The working class has little time to read and stay informed after working all day and taking care of the kids and the house, and that is certainly to the advantage of the government. As long as the wheels of the economy keep turning. The ruling class get richer, and the working class get concessions and take aways. I believe that people are so stressed out, it's easier not to know what's really going on, because it's enough to make one very disturbed, and distressed. Sadly, people don't realize that they can make a difference. People do not understand their history, especially caucasions. We chase after money. In 1 hr. we have 30 commercials on network TV. People are tired and want to relax. We aren't even taught the complete truth in our schools. I feel extremely strongly about your question. This is exactly why I write. To make people question things. Thanks for asking this. I was in fourth grade when I rebelled against what I was hearing in church, because I knew it wasn't the truth. Catholics, Jews, Christians, Blacks, Whites, we all bleed the same, we all cry if our children are hurt. What was the BS I was hearing? I believe in God. I believe we should help lift each other up, and know what's going on. Not follow like sheep to the slaughter as in history, like our fellowman did to the concentration camps.

The same reason that Muslims, Europeans and others believe what they hear. Too many people around the globe believe what they hear others say without really investigating the truth for lack of education and ignorance.

The typical American thinks very clearly, only a small percent you are referring to, and the squeaking wheel gets the attention

My answer will paint with a brush as broad as the one you used when you asked the question.

We are assaulted with information from the time we wake to the moment we drop off to sleep. I suspect that most Americans accept what they hear as truth, in part because we are a trusting lot, and it is easier to accept a statement as truth rather than validate what we read/heard.

Not just everything they hear but every stupid thing they hear....... I could throw it up to basic ignorance but there are probably many underlying causes explained best by someone with a degree in social psychology and political studies...
