it's not really expressing yourself when it's a fashion trend. it's like the "nonconformist" who conforms to what nonconformists say they should say/act like/dress like, etc. When I look around and see a bunch of goth people I laugh because they all look the same but claim they are expressing their own individual selves. Bull.

Nothing wrong with being a goth- there have been a few bad apples that have made it rough for other people who are into that scene (see the gun rampage in Montreal last week where a goth opened fire on a group of teenagers and killed one)...

from the outside looking in, it appears that goth seems more like hiding then expressing.. but I dont really know , because I am not one. Never be afraid to be who you truely are.. so if Goth is what you want to reflect as who you are then that is your choice to make, but if you are goth because you are hiding who you are or just trying to fit in, then you should talk to someone about gaining the confidence to be your own person. Just be happy with who you are, the way you are... be respectful to your mom, but explain to her how you feel.

Guess its what does it for you. My opinion is that its a waste of time cause it doesnt really express anything positive. It is just a bunch of people who want to desplay a look of suffering and nothing of love. Think if you really want to express yourself then you should get together with some friends and try to go out on weekends and set up help centers for the poor and homeless or even take your idle time and go down to help centers or hospitals and try to give hope to the less fortunate.

It's a community like any other. Jocks, Goths, Nerds, etc. The problem is that people like to stereotype community members. You and everyone else has a right to self-expression and you don't need to be member of a large community to do it.

It's always something .
I really think they are depressed and seem to have an axe to grind with the world ; daring people to like it or lump it-yet doing the far out , to get noticed ..You don't see them enjoying themselves -although they could do it in the privacy of home ..
Not that there's anything wrong with black . I don't like this "labeling" people do of themselves and their groups . It seems like of way of saying "OK , we're out of the human race from now on ".And then they spend the rest of the time wondering why nobody understands them . You may be "expressing yourself". That doesn't mean it's lovely . Mohammed Atta was expressing himself when he hijacked planes on 9/11 . Try to lighten up and understand that your mom wants to see you happy . Even your avatar looks angry .

I think 'goth' is just a term that someone coined up for a certain group of people...I don't care if they're preps, jocks, geeks/nerds and all the stereotypical crap, it's what counts in the inside. If you're a jackass (metaphorically speaking) then you won't be talking to me anytime soon and if you're a sweety, I could look forward to talking to you more often.

The fact alone that you mentioned your Mom hating goth is pretty indicative of your age.

I think goth girls are HOT. I love the black clothes. There is nothing wrong with them. Dont go to overboard though you still gotta respect your mom.

I think goths have their rights like everyone else. People just put labels on them because they don't think that goths HAVE rights. Goth's have their beliefs, and theres nothing wrong with that. Just tell her that this is what I believe in and this is what I like. Dont be sad or put down, we all have our own beliefs
