It's got about 8-9 points of soil, housing a poinsettia plant of about 3-4 feet in heigt, it's pretty big. how often should I water it? I've been giving it water once every 3-4 days, maybe 2-3 cups of water, but it might actually need more water, lots of soil. Am I doing something wrong here? Thanks.

Hi,
I'm doing an "Adopt A Tree" assignment, but the tree I chose to adopt is one that I can't identify!

Here is a picture of my tree:

And here is a closer picture of the kind of leaf that is on my tree:

Any help with this is appreciated! Thanks in advance.

I have a compost bucket in my backyard that I throw kitchen refuse into and then give to the local Co-op. Is it alright to put wheat pasta in the compost? I made some Anne's macaroni and cheese, but just ended up cooking it for too long and never added the cheese. The pasta was whole wheat shells.

See, i have huge hill in the back of my house, and it's private property(its a golf coarse). For 1 week kids have sled down with the snowboards landing into my grass and tearing it up. I spend have spent at least $200-$300 trying to make the house nice with flowers and adding furtalizer. I called the owners of this property and they said it's illegal for them to even come onto this land. We have talked to the parents of these kids and they don't really care. my problem is i have NO privacy, they are screaming all day. My kids are getting angry as well because these are students that are rude to them.
now my question, what should i/can i do to get these kids off my lawn and stop vandalizing? I don't want to be mean because these are the people my kids go to school with.
p.s In the summer time the use bikes instead of sleds and i have asked them NICELY to leave.

Who ever heard of planting trees in the winter? We have had a cold Dec. and received notice from the city that they will be planting a Little Leaf Linden in our tree lawn within the next few weeks. Isn't this a waste of taxpayers' money?

I planted my maple maybe late summer, and it looked kinda like it was going to die(edge of leaves looked dry), but I planted it anyway. It took a while for leaves to turn red, I remember looking at it, admiring the leaves, and all of a sudden, the next day, the leaves looked fried!! not only dry like every other tree, but really, like fried, like they shrunk or something.. is that normal??, There is also what I think is new growth, but not sure, since i've never had a maple before.

I'm making a homemade birdfeeder but I don't know what kind of things to put on it. What foods attract cardinals or blue jays?

Please don't suggest birdseed..I really don't feel like going out in the cold weather. I want to use everyday household things. Thanks :-)

Okay, we just brought home our beautiful Chrirstmas tree. The roots are wrapped in plastic. Do I need to trim the tips of the roots before putting the tree into the potting soil in the pot? Or do I just toss it in, as is? How often do I water it?

Normally we have a cut tree, this will be our first year with a live one. Thanks for all the help and any other tips would be great. Happy Holidays!

I have a lot of trees in my yard, so there is a lot of shade. I have planted plants that can grow in the shade, but those that should flower rarely do. I have tried Miracle Gro. I'm afraid the soil is depleated of nutrients because of all of the trees - how do I fix it?

i'm trying to think of inexpensive holiday gifts (low on funds this year) and i had an idea to give my family potted tulip bulbs for christmas. i thought it would be neat for them to keep and wait for the bulb to grow. but can you do this indoors? i've only heard of planting tulips in the garden. will they grow if the soil isn't frozen?

forgive my lack of knowledge on this... i am not a gardener!

I live in a small city so I enjoyed the rare occasion of watching a deer from my window. He ate all the leaves off two of my Hosta before some neighborhood kids scared him away.
