I live in a small city so I enjoyed the rare occasion of watching a deer from my window. He ate all the leaves off two of my Hosta before some neighborhood kids scared him away.

Your hostas will be fine next spring. I know, I love the deer too but sometimes they can be devastating. They ate my morning glories last year and the top out of a young mimosa tree as well as some of my perennials. If they come back next year, just sprinkle some red pepper on your plants. They won't like that, and should leave them alone. You might have to do it more than once, but it worked for me. There are other deer deterrents, such as human hair, bars of soap, a product called Ropel, but the red pepper works just fine.

I agree with scott
if he didn't pull up the tubers then they will grow again and again and spread like crazy the only thing that hurts ( lol !) them is full sun.

It should be fine. The leaves die back in the winter anyway so it's a good thing. The dear just cleaned up and did the work for you.

Yes, it will come back and they will eat them next year. I'd suggest looking for plants that they don't like. There are many really nice options. Peonys, coreopsis, columbine, lavander just to name a few.
