We have a feeling the carpet will need to go but perhaps one of you have a sure fire way of cleaning it. I have tried chlorine, spraying the wall and using it as shampoo, lysol drenching, & dehumidifiers yet we still seem to get the sniffles from the room. If ripping out the carpet is the ONLY answer, will the mold ever go away since it is a cement floor basement ?

I want to put my gas clothes dryer in my garage. There are no gas outlets in the room. There is a black pipe in the attic that provides gas to the furnace and hot water heater. I want to tap into that pipe and then run some of that flexible yellow metal gas tubing to my dryer.

How can I tap into the black pipe?

Whenever the rain pours heavily, there is a leak buildup in the center of the ceiling. The flat wooden roof is covered in tar and we can't isolate the problem. Are there any good roof repair/leak sealing products, and are they easy to apply?

In my first home out of college, I was trying to defrost the refrigerator in our leased apartment, and I started chipping away at the walls with a large pick. I hit the wall and all of this freon vapor comes out, effectively making the fridge a large cabinet, unfit for keeping things cold.

EDF Energy London UK are killing me with their bills. They say their meter is working fine, but I just can't believe what they are asking me to pay. They think I am using £120 - £160 worth per month, which just can't be right. Admittedly my place is all electric, but I live alone, am REALLY careful with lights and stuff, and haven't even had the heating on in about 6 months. I even run my washing machine and heat my water over night using cheaper Economy Seven Electricity.

When we looked at the house it was 100 degrees outside but the inside was just a bit warmer than I'm comfortable with. We've had the house for 1 week. Now that it's 80 degrees outside I can't get our AC to a comfortable level. There's two units, one for the new kitchen addition and one for the rest of the house. There's a ten degree (or more) difference from the living room (where the thermostat is) to the uppermost bedroom (above the living room). The house is sealed pretty well... interior air pressure keeps the doors from closing easily (they have to be pushed somewhat to close fully), so I don't think there are any air leaks.
