For example, antismoking organizations make it sound as though anyone who smokes will get lung cancer and they use scary sounding statistics like "smokers have a 10 times greater chance of dying of lung cancer," when the truth is that only 1% of nonsmokers die of lung cancer (meaning that 10% of smokers die of it -- not something like 90% which is what they make it seem).
And yes, I know smoking's not good for me, but I'm 24 and have smoked for 10 years and yet I don't have any of the horrible consequences that they threaten you with as a kid -- I don't have yellow fingers, skin and teeth, I don't get out of breath easily, I'm not out of shape etc etc. I want to quit, but I still question a lot of the antismoking propaganda.
