Are both diseases related to each other? If so, what is the treatment? I hope that you can direct me to more resources, websites, or even names of some books.

I have a friend who has a failing heart valves. He seems always over the years to be clearing his lungs. I am thinking it must be his heart failing and putting water in his lungs. He's in good Health but this seems worse.

I've always had a low heart rate, but lately I have been feeling weird every now and then, if I sit and think about my heart beating, my chest will get tight and I will have a shortness in breath, I will also have a chest pain around my heart... I am not sure if this is mainly due to the fact I am thinking about it, and thus am worrying over nothing and it is all in my head, of it there is a problem

My resting heart rate, that I just took, was at 49 or 50 beats per second... I am 19 years old

I have high blood pressure and take Toprol for it. My doctor is concerned about the possibility of Provigil causing heart palpatations. Is it safe to take Provigil if you have high blood pressure? I'm going to get a sleep study done soon. Even if I come out negative for sleep apnea, could I still benefit from taking Provigil?

In answering a question of mine recently, someone by the name of Andee wrote;
"..who have had a buildup of plaque containing cholesterol on the sides of their arteries who had to have a physician go in and scrape the plaque off the sides of the artery to allow blood to flow more freely"
I was wondering if Andee, or anyone else who knows of this procedure could tell me what the name is and how it is preformed. I am keen to learn more about this, please.

A friend of mine recently became very sick, and was told she had Atrial Fibrillation, she is only 30 years old. She went through a stress test and an echo and now has to wear a heart monitor for 30 days. What can the Atrial Fibrillation be caused from and do patients with Atrial Fibrillation usually have it for the rest of their lives?

I'm 14 and I've been told that I have cholesterol levels of 30 pts. higher than normal by my doctor. I was wondering what cholesterol was exactly, how it affects me, and what it can lead to.
Also, could anyone tell me how or what to do in order to lower it back to normal levels. Thank you all so much.

Thanks for the info regarding this issue (Husband has lo pulse genetically and is on atenolol which makes him out of breath and lower pulse, e.g. 40)
My husband has taken acetazolamide (which I requested from doc) due to a small study that found it helped some with severe sleep apnea. But after the 2 stents were placed in Dec. 06, doc gave him cozaar, which is contraindicated w/ postassium, but when take acetazolamide, need to take potassium supplement. I understand that blood tests could monitor this interaction; and the acet. does help with the sleep apnea (a bit, he has complex apnea and is getting the new vpap machine in about a month). Cardiologist is on vacation now, I have called twice about this question and tried to ask him last visit, but he only has about 15 minutes per patient (he spent more like 45 minutes w/us), yet I still didn't get through my list of questions.

I mean everyone is going to die at some point in time. No matter the action taken death is certain in the end.

So can anyone claim to have saved a life? When I had CABG done last year, was my life saved or did the doctors only extend my life by an unknown length of time? Since no one can say when or what the cause of my death will be was any change made at all?

Are we lying to ourselves with the phrase "life saving"? Should we really call it "life extension", "putting of death" or maybe just "life quality improvement"? Or is it just wishful thinking?

These are philosophical questions I know. I just wanted some other thoughts.
