It's important to take your blood pressure before any medication that can lower it so that you don't cause a drop in an already low blood pressure. So take it once in the am before you take the enalapril and once at night before you take your toprol. You might also want take your pulse before each of the meds because blood pressure meds often cause a drop in heart rate as well. The next time you're at the doctors, you could try asking him/her for parameters for not taking each medication. For example, don't take the pills if your systolic blood pressure (top #) is below 100, or if your heart rate is below 60.

There really is no best time to take it. If you're concerned that the medications aren't working or are overworking, take your BP several times during the day. The wrist monitors aren't very accurate or get yourself a good cuff one. And remember that you pay for what you get. Who suggested that you take Toprol at night. It's a beta blocker and slows the heart rate down. I take atenolol (same thing but I'm sure cheaper than Toprol) and I take mine in the morning. Why aren't you on a water pill? That's usually the first line defense for high blood pressure. Good luck.

The most common answer is to take your BP in the morning before you become active and before breakfast. But you should ask your doctor for his input on this.

Here is a link to my website concerning my health conditions. Please click on the menu item on the left and see basic information on that subject and links to additional info.

I also found a good little program for keeping track of your BP. It's free at this link:

Take it early evening. Sit down and relax for 10 minutes before you do it.
