Singles & Dating - 8 September 2006

I was married for 21 years. Married when I was pregnant and very young. We had 3 children together. He was abusive to me and our children. I was able to get away with my kids and we are now safe. He's out of our lives because he is in jail. He's due to get released in the next 2 years. I still live in fear of him emotionally and when he's released it will be physically. I have had a couple other relationships since my divorce (good guys) but, I always have a problem with trusting and letting down my guard to my heart. My children are now grown and are doing good but, I can't seem to get over the abuse. I've been in therapy for a long time and nothing seems to work. I've come a long way but, I'm still afraid of getting hurt again. What can I do to eventually get over my past. I want a happy relationship too like so many married couples that I see. I'm a good person and I think I have so much to offer. Help! Thanks!

I have known and liked this girl since 6th Grade and I am currently in 10th Grade. I am like her best friend along with another girl and I am enjoying life. However, although we do everything together and she knows how I feel, she still has a boyfriend because every guy in the school likes her too. I know she likes me but she likes her boyfriend probably a lot more and even her best friend has a boyfriend now leaving me all to my lonesome. Ok my b/f and I both went to college, but we went to different colleges 3 hours away. Things are actually really good except one thing. My b/f is going to school with a friend of his, who is a girl. I call him and he is always over there. He says they watch movies and hang out and that there isn't anything, but something just doesn't feel right. This girl does have a b/f, but it just seems that when i call him, he always wants to go right away. Please i need help!

ok now, i like this guy named brett. he's in my art class and we have a lot of things in common. we like the same bands (never talked about it, can tell from the band tees) have the same shoes (converse chuck taylors) and we are both in art. there are some other things but they are trivial and dont matter as much. we are both really timid, so its hard for us to talk to each other. we have had a few conversations, but he kept saying really stupid things in a really serious tone, like he was nervous. today we kept looking at each other, and when we saw the other looking, we looked down. do you think he likes me and if he does then how do i get him to approach me? i really like him a lot so its really important. no sarcastic answers please.

We live in a shallow world, there's no question about it. A world that seems to be obsessed with some superficial idea of love. Every time i turn on the radio i hear it, every time i turn on the TV, i see it. Should we be rushing into plenty of relationships or just spend time getting to know ourselves? I personally have never been in a serious relationship and i've never felt the need too be. As people, do we need to signify our existance through the existance of another person? I'd like to hear your opinion on the matter.

How soon should you tell someone u got "the thing" ? Do u tell them right
away and risk scaring them off ? Or do u wait until they like you more ?

My boyfriend and I of almost five years just broke up and he is treating me like I did him dirty and acting all stupid like I broke up with him for someone else and I told him that our relationship was going thru to many ups and downs and I think that we are better off being friends and he take as I said f*** you but I still love this dude with all my heart but the relationship is not good as us being boyfriend and girlfriend.

Okay,well I have this guy that I love very much but haven't dated in a really long time.Now putting that aside we have dated twice for very long periods of time and been doing other things on the side;)
Now through all the years that I've known him he's hurt me a few times,made me cry like 1000 times yet made me feel amazing a lot of the time too(when i wasn't hurt and crying)Now I just found out only now that he had lied to be on the day before prom that he was dating someone else(although he still went to prom with me)and the only reason he lied was because he didn't want to do anything with me after prom and yet like a month later he was doing things with me again and I didn't even ask or anything,he just decided he wanted to.So I don;'t know what to do about it.I've tried confronting him about everything but the man doesn't listen to anyone.So I don't know if I should cut him out of my life completely,tolerate him for who he is but not forgive him,or forgive him.

I just got out of a 1 yr. relationship a month before we started dating, the b/f before him dumped me for another girl. It's hard for me to trust him b/c he's such good friends w/ alot of girls. There is this guy in my class. He sits right next to me. Yesterday, he kept leaning towards me and putting his head on my shoulder. Today he kept taking a marker and poking me with it and with a pen. Then my hand was on my lap, and he grabs it. He said he just had to do it. Then with the pen, he would make an "o" with his hand, then put the pen in the middle, moving it up and down. Then he would in mid air act like he was slapping something. What does ALL this mean. If every problem is answered, then I'll give the 10 points to that one. So please help me!

I know this boy. he has been a close friend for ten years and i like him alot. his sister use to know that but now she thinks i don't. he has a girl friend but it won't last he said to his sister he was breaking up with her. but when i went there he kept putting his foot on mine. but i don't know if he was just doing that cause he thinks were family of if he likes me. should i tell his sister i still like him? he use to like me i know for a fact but he never told me that he told his sister and she told my mom who told me. but i wasn't supose to know it. i really like him and i'm afaid if i tell him it will reck our friendship. please help.

I can't get this guy out of my mind. I just wish He'd quit at my job, so I wouldn't have to see him anymore. I feel he's given me several mixed signals. But maybe I'm just reading him all the wrong way. He'll flirt with me but everytime I try to get close he backs off. But I don't feel I'm imagining the way he has sometimes looked into my eyes. But then he wont make any eye contact whatsoever. And sometimes I feel like he's trying to avoid me and then other times like he wants to be near me. Like today he said something to this lady about some work and he was saying kiddingly It's your fault and she said no it was margaret that did it. And he said oh that's even worse then and laughed. He is a friendly and kind of flirty guy to begin with. But I just got this feeling sometimes like he kind of liked me. But if he doesn't is it because he finds something wrong with me. I mean I can't even talk to him because he acts so strange. yet he talks to others.
