I was driving through a torrential downpour when I saw her. She ran through the rain with a soaked newspaper held above her head in one hand and her pumps in the other. I pulled up next to her and told her to get in. She did not hesitate. With complete trust she thrust her saturated body into the gray leather seat. She turned to look at me simultaneously removing her curled auburn hair from her eyes. Thanks, she said, I’m Tanya. Sal, I responded. Where can I take you? She said she lived in Evanston near Northwestern University. Since I was shy at the time, the trip was pretty quiet. Only some light classical music was playing in the background. We are headed north on Lake Shore Drive when we hit some traffic. At this point visible frustrated she takes off her top. She then said, do you mind? I hope not because there is no way I am going to sit here with these wet clothes on. Now she is sitting there in a black bra holding her hands in front of the vents in an attempt to warm up.
