I have been using the Freecycle website for a while now (where people offer stuff that they no longer need/want for free collection to those who can use them) - I think it's an excellent idea because it keeps usable items like furniture and electrical equipment out of landfill.

However - someone I know told me the other day she would never take second hand furniture etc from a site like that because a) she would never feel it was "her own" unless she bought it from a shop and b) people who use these sites are just freeloaders who can't be bothered to work to buy their own stuff!

I'm disgusted by this - not only is she suggesting that its better to clog up landfill sites with things that could still be used, she's suggesting that everyone should be able to afford new stuff!

What do other people think?

What kind of notebooks or excercise books do u use ??
R they eco - buddy or just ordinary.

All eco-buddy books use paper made 4rm *bagasse*, not trees. Bagasse comes 4rm *sugarcane*. After the cane has been crushed 2 make sugar, the leftover pulp is turned into paper & a eco-buddy book uses this paper. Think about it,everytime u buy an eco-buddy book which uses bagasse
made paper,u make our planet a little greener. N everytime you save a tree, u save a part of the planet Earth.
It's up 2 us now.
Lets go ahead & create a revolution. :-)

To be honest i came 2 know about these eco-buddy books
only recently & like many others i too had been using ordinary
note-books thus indirectly killing a tree. But now that i have come 2 know about this i am going 2 use eco-buddy note books henceforth.

I shared this important piece of imformation with u
all 2 create an awareness towards deforestation.
Source- eco-buddy notebooks.

Even if it used fossil fuels aslong as it was in only a night time and auxiliery role? Could this be done in a way that allows people to keep there existing power hot water and heating setup as that backup? Could it be bought on payment plans that garentee lower bills with no money down until there paid off so that companies that build them consumers that buy them and the environment that's saved a little bit with every purchase win?

I am always stressed about these big bulky plastic detergent bottles that I empty every couple of weeks. If a store can provide a water dispenser, a coke machine, etc....Wouldn't it be expedient to have Laundry Soap dispensers?

Anyone??

Remember I came up with the idea........lol

I live in Oregon, and we have a 5 Cent refund when you return them to the store. That goes for glass, plastic and cans. I think if more states had this type of program, more soda/ beer containers would be recycled. There are no cans or bottles lying beside the road either, makes for a cleaner environment as well. You do pay the extra 5 cents when you buy the cans but you get it back. Why don't more states have this?

We're poor, I'm not afraid to admit it. I'm married with a year-old son and a baby on the way. We're on CalWORKS (call it welfare if you want to be a jerk), and I just can't eat as healthy as I would like with food stamps - organic and vegetarian is just not an option for us. I can't use canvas shopping bags unless I get them for free. I can recycle and conserve energy - but that's about it.

But I want to DO MORE. Any tips?

I really, really don't want to put it in landfill, but obviously there's no point putting it in a charity shop when they can't sell it. it can probably be fixed, but I don't need it and i can't afford to pay for the repair. does anywhere take old stuff and fix it up? (around Glasgow?)
