I am always stressed about these big bulky plastic detergent bottles that I empty every couple of weeks. If a store can provide a water dispenser, a coke machine, etc....Wouldn't it be expedient to have Laundry Soap dispensers?

Anyone??

Remember I came up with the idea........lol

Find out if your town has a food co-op. They will sell a lot of items in bulk that you can fill up in your own reusable containers. Laundry detergent, lotion, dish soap, honey, peanut butter, cereals, dried fruits, nuts, etc. Plus they don't charge you for the weight of your container.

Yeah. But that would take the fun and profit out of charging you extra for that plastic bottle you throw away every couple of weeks.

Seriously, you're right. The problem is you ever notice how many detergents they have out there? Pretty soon you'd have a "hall of machines" to dispense refills.

Nonetheless, I have to say, it would be much more environmentally friendly if they did make machines that refilled those bottles. Also, if they removed those surfactants, fish and frog would not be born with 3 eyes, or extra limbs etc.

I know, without those surfactants you wouldn't be able to lift stains out so easy, but on the other hand, if the fish and frogs are getting genetic damage from the stuff, aren't you worried about your kids at this point?

Well I guess you can say the same thing about lots of things. But with all the different brands, and kinds that would be a little far fetched. To help in other ways you could buy food in the bulk section of the grocery store. Like cereal, baking goods, spices, snacks ect... That way you wont be wasting excess packaging and it's cheaper as well. You could also buy larger detergent containers so they last longer and you wont have to buy them as much. Then recycle them, or buy powdered detergent with the cardboard box if that's easier for you to recycle.

Another wonderful idea I read about is washing machines that come with pre-installed detergent that the machine captures after use and then reuses it for the next wash. There would be some residual loss, so it could be rated for 10,000 wash loads or something.

That's a great idea.....I too have thought it would be great if they had some type of return service strictly for detergent bottles so they can be recycled by the company that originally distributed them, but I think your idea is even better!

Of course it would be possible...but we live in a world that thinks more about convenience instead of what may be better for the earth. But your idea is great!!!

You can use febreeze balls. I now use them, but before I would buy smaller bottles and pour them into my big jug. People also use them for water storage.
