I am doing an english project for a grade 12 advance class. You have to choose a topic that has meaning to you, and well I took on the topic Global warming. The enviroment is very important to me. Part of the project is to ask a speicalist a few questions, so if you are a specialist on Global warming if would be really awesome if you could answer a few questions for me :)

and if you say it's a cycle please back it up with something,....we obviously don't have any "scientific" records that date back past the last ice age so how do you or anyone scientifically prove its a cycle

"Professor John Marburger, who advises President Bush, said it was more than 90% certain that greenhouse gas emissions from mankind are to blame.

The Earth may become "unliveable" without cuts in CO2 output, he said"

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/science/nature/6994760.stm

Here is Marburger's rather impressive background:

http://www.climatescience.gov/Library/bios/marburger.htm

Basically he's endorsing the IPCC's findings. Why would President Bush's science advisor do such a thing if there were any significant doubt in the scientific community that the IPCC report is correct and humans are the primary cause of the current global warming?

Can any global warming doubters explain this?

I believe in Global Pollution and we are somewhat guilty of that, but Global Warming is about as real as the Easter Bunny.

and usually those doing this have little, or no idea, to whom they are replying to or about the issue.
I was called a teenage little girl that knew nothing about what I spoke of, etc.
FYI: I am a very well educated & informed 62 yr. old woman who has an extensive background in the earth sciences and happens to enjoy a debate but not when it turns to name calling & rudness. Anyone agree?

I think Al Gore wrote the book Inconvenient Truth a little early in the game. All the information is not in yet, so I am wondering what everyone else thinks, or has studied, about this subject. Some say there is a giant planet heading toward us that will affect our poles, weather, etc. It is called Nibiru, and could be the Sumerian's 'Planet X'.
There is little info at NASA about Nibiru.

Meanwhile, back on Earth-

According to NASA, it has been known that these climate changes would occur in this time frame.

Our planet can no longer seem to cope with the human race expanding everywhere. There is no other species so far spread from a single area as we have, and there is no other species environmentally unstable and unsustainable, as we grow, the natural world shrinks because we don't live with wildlife.

If there was a policy that every couple could only have one child, then in the space of about 2 generations, the human population would half. I don't agree with this idea, but if was implemented our level of pollution, consumption, and environmental impact would also approximately half.

And we'd take up so much less space, natural habitats could eventually re-emerge and we would have ample energy resources so that we wouldn't need more industrial development.

So should there be a new global policy, lets call it a license to reproduce. Or selective breeding (terrible but natural). Could such extreme measures be excused in such time of environmental chrisis? For future generations?

WOW! Is this what goes through the minds of all those trumpeting global warming?

Dana said, "Why do people form an unshakable belief about a scientfic issue based on virtually no scientific information?

Do you ever feel like we'd be better off if certain people were tossed into a big meat grinder? Maybe we could make some jello out of them."

This sounds pretty much like your average fascist thought process - destroy all those with an opposing view. And this musing was done in public. You can only imagine what goes on when they are gathered in private, or worse yet, in the darker recesses of their minds.

I'm not sure how you can call this science, anymore, when the folks with post-graduate science degrees are talking this way. Where did we stumble off the path of reason, and how do we find a common ground to solve the very real environmental problems facing all of us?

Global warming deniers often make claims like "one volcano eruption emits more CO2 than humans do in 5,000 years", but they never support those claims with links or other scientific evidence.

Sometimes they'll link Inhofe's website or a similarly biased site like junkscience.com or co2science.org, but rarely even use relatively unbiased media articles, let alone scientific websites or papers.

There are of course some exceptions, which makes them skeptics rather than deniers.

On the other hand, global warming acknowledgers will usually cite several different valid sources to support their arguments.

Do GW deniers simply not care about science or evidence, do they think they're smarter than climate scientists, or are they simply oblivious to the impotence of their arguments?

No doubt that some people believe ghost are real because that's what they believe. The mind is a wonderful thing that can make reality what ever it feels comfortable with.

So is this how global warming works? People believe it's getting warmer, so they start to actually feel warmer? For them the warming is real even though no one else feels it.

Would anyone who believe in "global warming" could use objective facts to show that two years in a row we would have fewer than average hurricanes or that Chicago would set new low temps two years in a row? How is this consistent with "global warming".

Scientists know that the solar magnetic cycle is warming up the entire solar system while temperatures over the last 50 years tend to go down with the increases in CO2. So, who is making money off the "humans are the cause" myth. How do we "follow the money?" How can an ordinary guy make money while the making is good? This is like the Alar scare and the cancer-causing cell phone thing. Besides Gore, who else is making money off this?

The news today spoke of a new passage that has opened (melted on its own) in the Arctic & several countries are rushing to take advantage of it. Going to put up a fuel station for ships, new mining ventures, new route for world shipping, the list goes on. No one sees the dire results from all this melting.

You see not all 'doom and gloom'. We are starting to see some of the benefits of this natural warming cycle.

"The Northwest Passage is one of the most fabled sea routes in the world - a short cut from Europe to Asia through the Canadian Arctic. "

"It says this made the passage 'fully navigable' for the first time since monitoring began in 1978."

Excellent. Should be very good for trade with the Far East. Anyone fancy a cruise?
