A few scientists have tried this in the past. They've gotten exposed, and been kicked out of science.

A particularly educational case is where a university professor was exposed BY HER GRADUATE STUDENTS.

Why is this a big deal? They talked about going to the administration among themselves. Their consensus was that doing this would wreck their careers. They did it - and they were right. Everything they'd worked for for years was gone. Most left science. The few that stayed had to start all over with someone else. But, knowing the result, they still blew the whistle. They were scientists - they couldn't let this slide.

Science is outstandingly good at exposing mistakes or frauds, more so than business or politics. In today's scientific world, people don't get away with it for long.

This is what happens when people try this:

And scientists know it.

This accusation is crazy.

It is provent that coal is the leading contributor to global warming. If we continue its use our nation is at risk. Consider that at the current pace we will lose a huge percentage of costal towns including, Tampa, Atlantic City, New Orleans, New York, Boston. These towns will be under water in our lifetime. People worry about what stopping coal will do to our economy. Consider what the consequences of not doing anything will do. Something's got to be done. We've got only 7 years left to make the change. Spread this message.

has any one noticed that we first used to call it global warming, but more recently they have decided to call it climate change. you think they changed the name so they could blame all sorts of weather, not just when it got a little bit warm in the winter?

Isn't that hypocritical?

Why couldn't they make a teleconference if this is such a big deal?

If this is a problem I think those who say we should conserve should lead the way instead of telling you.

I had to spend time this morning removing 4+ inches of global warming off my car before I could go to work.

Kiribati President Anote Tong showed the conference video footage of what he called the consequences of rising water levels for his island nation, including intensifying floods and storms and greater salt levels in the groundwater.
He said 25 to 50 percent of urban areas in a southern region of his country was under threat from rising sea levels, while 50 to 80 percent of villages risked being submerged in the same region.

Energy is neither created or destroyed. We take trillions of Watts out of the air currents every day to generate electricity.

What is the environmental impact of reducing the amount of energy in the air streams?

Since this energy moves water around the planet, does removing this energy for electrical generation also remove the ability for the air to move this water?

If the air no longer has the ability to move the air with higher water concentrations to areas with lower water concentrations, this would cause floods and droughts where they wouldn't normally occur.

Are we creating a new problem with wind power? Are we creating 'Global Calming'?

If you clicked on this question you probably believe that it is an issue..but we can really do something to help.. I want to know what you do to help better our planet.. What you think are some ways that you can really help and contribute to this issue..

if you want to know more about it go to http://www.greenpeace.org and really think about how you can make a difference...
SOMETIMES we all forget that we are humans and individuals and that people power is the TRUE power..
DO you use tissues and are you aware or Kimberly Clark who is DESTROYING our forests to make these products and providing us with less oxygen which is ESSENTIAL with the fires that have been going on in california.

We have less than 1% of renewable energy right now
We as U.S. really should be leading by example for the rest of the world, yet we and Australia are the worst with Global warming issues...

I want to what you think is the most effective way of telling people they can HELP?

If this is so unfounded why have these corporations been pumping loads of money into the battle to undermine climate change research results?

Wouldn't it make more sense to just pocket the money and (if this is just so much false data and misinformation) let the scientific community prove / disprove climate change?

Why have lobbyists with the Global Climate Coalition (heavily funded by Exxon-Mobile) and the Information Council on the Environment (loaded with money from the coal industry) admitted under sworn testimony they have used the same tactics the tobacco industry did for three decades, if climate change isn't happening?

Strikes me as odd to go to such extreme measures to disprove a "weak" science at best.

I do believe that the earth is warming up (Global Warming) and I do also believe that GW is caused by humans

In Al Gore's movie and book (page 47) there's this spectacular plot showing CO2 concentration rise (from ice drilling samples), it sort of fluctuates for 500000 years then in the last decades in goes up to 300ppm and even more, it is therefore very very likely due to humans

My question: how can someone object this? Is the data wrong? is it falsified? Is another effect causing the rise? Please explain your theory. I am open to GW being wrong or fake only if someone can convince me

Why is this a concern?

The rapid rise in greenhouse gases is a problem because it is changing the climate faster than some living things may be able to adapt. Also, a new and more unpredictable climate poses unique challenges to all life.

Historically, Earth's climate has regularly shifted back and forth between temperatures like those we see today and temperatures cold enough that large sheets of ice covered much of North America and Europe. The difference between average global temperatures today and during those ice ages is only about 5 degrees Celsius (9 degrees Fahrenheit), and these swings happen slowly, over hundreds of thousands of years.

Now, with concentrations of greenhouse gases rising, Earth's remaining ice sheets (such as Greenland and Antarctica) are starting to melt too. The extra water could potentially raise sea levels significantly.

As the mercury rises, the climate can change in unexpected ways. In addition to sea levels rising, weather can become more extreme. This means more intense major storms, more rain followed by longer and drier droughts (a challenge for growing crops), changes in the ranges in which plants and animals can live, and loss of water supplies that have historically come from glaciers.

Scientists are already seeing some of these changes occurring more quickly than they had expected. According to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, eleven of the twelve hottest years since thermometer readings became available occurred between 1995 and 2006.

What Is Global Warming?

Click here to find out more!
The Planet is Heating Up—and Fast

Glaciers are melting, sea levels are rising, cloud forests are drying, and wildlife is scrambling to keep pace. It's becoming clear that humans have caused most of the past century's warming by releasing heat-trapping gases as we power our modern lives. Called greenhouse gases, their levels are higher now than in the last 650,000 years.
SEE HOW IT WORKS

We call the result global warming, but it is causing a set of changes to the Earth's climate, or long-term weather patterns, that varies from place to place. As the Earth spins each day, the new heat swirls with it, picking up moisture over the oceans, rising here, settling there. It's changing the rhythms of climate that all living things have come to rely upon.

What will we do to slow this warming? How will we cope with the changes we've already set into motion? While we struggle to figure it all out, the face of the Earth as we know it—coasts,

Everyone in this section seems to keep saying "global warming doesnt exist. You dont believe kn science, because science is factual" and things like that. What bugs me is that global warming actually is happening. the only thing people are disputing is whether it is natural or caused by man. sciencetific data states that the erath is warming up. what scientific data doesn't state is whether it is man made or natural. so dispute this, not whether or not global warming exists.

According to the graph on this Anthony Watts page, the forcing attributed to the Earth's albedo has varied from -2 W/m^2 to 6 W/m^2 over a span of just 6 years from 1997-2003. It was as high as 9 W/m^2 in 1986.

http://wattsupwiththat.wordpress.com/2007/10/17/earths-albedo-tells-a-interesting-story/

Now these numbers strike me as completely bogus because CO2 accounts for only 1.5 W/m^2 forcing and all greenhouse gases for 2.4 W/m^2. If the albedo forcing were varying by over 1 W/m^2 per year, that would be causing absolutely massive global temperature changes.

Moreover, the IPCC sets the forcing from the Earth's albedo at -0.7 W/m^2, within a range of -1.8 to -0.3 W/m^2. See page 4 here:

http://ipcc-wg1.ucar.edu/wg1/Report/AR4WG1_Print_SPM.pdf

So where the heck is Watts getting these numbers from? How much climate variation is realistically due to variations in the Earth's albedo?
