The Planet is Heating Up—and Fast

Glaciers are melting, sea levels are rising, cloud forests are drying, and wildlife is scrambling to keep pace. It's becoming clear that humans have caused most of the past century's warming by releasing heat-trapping gases as we power our modern lives. Called greenhouse gases, their levels are higher now than in the last 650,000 years.
SEE HOW IT WORKS

We call the result global warming, but it is causing a set of changes to the Earth's climate, or long-term weather patterns, that varies from place to place. As the Earth spins each day, the new heat swirls with it, picking up moisture over the oceans, rising here, settling there. It's changing the rhythms of climate that all living things have come to rely upon.

What will we do to slow this warming? How will we cope with the changes we've already set into motion? While we struggle to figure it all out, the face of the Earth as we know it—coasts,

Yea, Dr. Stephen Hawkins says it's going to be 450 degrees and raining sulfur!

It has to be true, no one is as smart as Dr. Hawkins!

Don't be put off by all the paid oil trolls that answered . You're on the right track. Do research on physics and meteorology, and natural history. It'll be clear to you how AGW is a big problem. Heat is the driving force of weather, and the patterns of weather are climate. Simple physics!

if all the people in this world would wake up and understand ,this is the only planet we have ,for starts if we all could drive solar powered cars we could make a difference if all the billionaires used just the interest in their bank accounts and use it to fight pollution are world would be a little better they could buy solar powered cars and sell real cheap to everyone and get rid of the gas guzzlers ,also the poor and middle class can help by recycling and boycott the companies that created the chemicals that destroy ,we could use the sun for our homes ,what people are doing now is crazy ,when the oceans rise and they are at rapid rates ,our planet will be lost along with all the wonderful things like life ,lets wake up before its to late.our world will be like the movie water-world ,if not will all be dead

that is greater to do with human beings than animals. we are the polluters of this planet, not cows. Your weight loss software won't impact international warming, yet walking to artwork or college could help. pass away the automobile at homestead and get a bike, even in iciness. which would be plenty much less pollution going into the ambience. on the different hand, international warming could be a organic cycle of evolution.

What if the Earth did something crazy like heat up and cool down in 1000 year cycles? How would we know that since we've only been keeping records for about 150 years?

The sky is falling, the sky is falling. Waaaaaa.
10,000 years ago or so there was a huge glacier where my house is now. Did the Native Americans cause it to melt with their camp fires? Or was it Mastodon farts? I am living just fine without that glacier, thank you.
