Who are some of your favorite artists? What radio stations do you listen to (internet or otherwise)? Where are you located?

Also - I need a drummer and a bass player - any takers in NE Wisconsin? I play guitar, have good gear, can sing, write originals, and have decent "chops". Thanks!!!

I have lived in the chicago area my whole life (33 years) and I am bored with all the crap music on the radio lately. Then it dawned on me!! I live in chicago and I know NOTHING about the chicago blues scene. My friend turned me on to Hound Dog Taylor and I love it. I feel like a kid who heard his first beatles or doors song. What are some other artists you recommend so I can get to know about the chicago blues??

I've been playing the piano since I was six. My training was conventional: Chopin, Debussy, Beethoven, Lecuona.
But I started dabbling with soul, bossa nova, blues and jazz by listening to such artists as Stevie Wonder, Michael Jackson, Jobim, Ray Charles, Bachrach, Sergio Mendes, Billie Holiday, Hornsby, Billy Joel, Basia, Clapton, Norah Jones, Benoit, Marsalis, Anita Baker and others in a long list. The chords, the beat, rhythm and vocals just tickled my ears, I guess. But there was something in jazz and blues that stirred me. There was a tinge of sadness, depth, and redemption. Could this be the "blues"? I heard Billie Holiday singing "Strange Fruit", and for the rest of the day, I had it. Ditto Ray Charles singing "Hard Times" and "Drown in My Own Tears."
So I tried to play by ear, not always successfully. I understand some basic chords a bit. If a chord sounds ok, I use it. But everything's instinct. Is there an easier and faster way to learn how to play and to improvise?

Overall, which do you think is the better guitar for blues? Personally I love the tone of the strat (Hendrix, Eric Clapton, Buddy Guy, and Stevie Ray Vaughan did, too) but I have also met some other blues musicians who preferred the Gibson. Just curious to get some other opinions...

I was running an amp this afternoon and noticed that the power conditioner was indicating the voltage was lower than normal. The amp didn't sound quite right to me - am I imagining this, or is there something to this? The amp is a Rivera Clubster 25, the speaker is not "broken in" yet, but I know what it usually sounds like. An air conditioner is on the same circuit is drawing a lot of power, which is why the voltage is lower (109 volts versus 119). Also, I was playing through another, different amp - was my perception affected by the other amp or is there really something to this? Am I perhaps going to need a voltage regulator to keep the voltage constant so the tone is the same? HELP! Thanks!!!

Btw: I used the same guitar on both amps, same settings.

here is my bridge pickup.
http://img255.imageshack.us/my.php?image=imgp0784ir5.jpg
its from an ibanez rg320.

am replacing the single coil bridge in my strat-style guitar (knock off). my guitar has, 1 volume, 2 tones, and 5 way pickup selector. have bought an HSS pickguard. body of my guitar is routed to fit any humbucker.

can someone tell me where these wires go? the seymour duncan website with the diagrams have different coloured wires and don't have diagrams for ibanez pickups.
i need to know which wire goes to the tone, volume, and so on.

just to check, the the my ibanez pickup has 4 wires. black, white, red, and a blue wire which is covered in a thick black covering. is that for the ground?

thanks, your help is very much appreciated.

i put new strings on and then in 2-3 weeks they dont have that smooth slide feeling. like they have a bit of friction on them, like they were rusty. its usually on the top 3 strings. other guitars at the guitar store i play, feel smooth and when sliding up/down the frets, the strings feel nice.
is it the fretboard that is sort of contaminating the strings with the rust? how do i prevent this the next time i buy a new set of strings?

Hi guys. When ever i show my songs to people on my cds, they keep telling me im the white hendrix. Im not bragging... I'm complaining! I love Hendrix stuff so much that i just hate every other style of guitar playing besides him... I can make a purely new original song, then it sounds like hendrix did lol... I just bend notes and love doing blues runs like him. I also for some reason play out of key when i solo sometimes and it sounds pretty cool, but its like hendrix when he does it!!! Im scared that if i make a successful career, that i will be judged as a hendrix wannabe... In a way i am... But what do you think i should do? I try to get interested in other guitarists but they bore the **** out of me...

She sounds a bit like Bonnie Raitt, but I know it's not her. She has a twang to her voice. I'm obsessing over finding this damned song, but I don't remember any lyrics. I have the tune in my head, but I'll be damned if I can remember anything else! She might be a bit obscure.

I realize this is rather subjective, but what singers in your mind have one-of-a-kind voices who could never be mistaken for anyone elses?

One obvious example would be Howling Wolf. Who else belongs in this category in your opinion?

here is my guitar:
http://images.music123.com/products/original/Baja/228731.jpg
its a cheap one, i know. thats why im taking it apart.
has 1 volume, 2 tones, 5 way pickup selector, 3 single coils.

i bought two humbuckers taken from an ibanez rg320 on ebay.
also got soldering iron.

here are my questions:
1. can i cut a humbucker hole where the bridge is and fit my bridge humbucker there? if so how? approx measurements? (no fancy tools)
2. if i fail with number 1 and have to buy a pickguard, will the strat style with 2 humbucker holes pickguard fit this guitar?
3. if #2 works do you recommend i use the 5way pickup selector to go with my 2 humbuckers or i just buy a 3 way selector?

thank you for reading. i just don't know electric guitars but i want to know. please don't tell me to buy another guitar, would take a year.

The solo to House of the Rising Sun seems to be derived from the riff plus the melody. But I can't get the melody part quite right - any bends, slides, hammering in or pulling off involved?

Right, so I know that the 50s neck is the thicker of the two, and i'm looking to buy one of 'em. But the thing is, I need to know how thick it is. I want a neck with girth but i don't want to be playing with a brick.

I've played Strat necks, but they're too thin and my thumb presses up against it and gets all cramped.

My hands fit really nicely onto an Epi black beauty and if a gib has a neck about that size, that'd be nice.

But I need to know if the 50s neck is excessively thick, or if the sixties neck would be good enough. Your feedback? Comments? Anything! Help, please!
