I like the original version the best. Its one of the best "unrequited love songs" in the blues-rock genre', EVER, imho. About the only thing I can suggest is that another artist might do a version that you like - just like what Jimi Hendrix did with Bob Dylan's "All Along The Watchtower", or Johnny Winter's version of Bob Dylan's "Highway 61".

I like both of Clapton's versions - but what tips the balance for me in favor of the original is that wonderful piano coda at the end which is absent from the unplugged version.

You adult males are somewhat defeatist.....(different than Tony) Dude it is not proper what amp or guitar u have in basic terms pick watever feels and sound suitable For a track like layla attempt leaning greater on the treble and mids thats one counsel i might provide
