Saturday night is a blues radio night.
There is a NPR station WDCB 90.9 that plays blues in the Chicago area. Here is a listing and a link.
Blues Before Sunrise
Sunday early morning, midnight to 5 a.m.
Blues Edition
Saturday, 7 p.m.
Sometimes it’s Greg Freerksen, other times it’s Cyndy Lee, but no matter the host, BLUES EDITION is always a great time. You’ll hear the latest blues releases intermingled with classic cuts and traditional blues tunes, and the weekly “Blues Calendar.”
Blues From the Red Rooster
Saturday, 9 p.m.
Visit the Red Rooster Lounge for an hour of blues on this award-winning show.

Go out and find some clubs that feature live national blues acts in Chicago. Buddy Guy's "Legends" is one good place. Perhaps a myspace search would help too.
I think Nick Moss and the Fliptops are from Chicago.
Some other bands of note that tour regularly: Sean Costello, Jason Ricci and New Blood (not just blues) Walter Trout, Little Charlie and the Nightcats, Fabulous Thunderbirds.
If you want to get into traditional Chicago Blues, start with Muddy Waters. That will open you up to Jimmy Rogers, Little Walter, Jr. Wells, and Buddy Guy, etc. Don't forget Magic Sam.

The real homegrown Chicago Blues, made up of a sector of local artists around at the time, was the Paul Butterfield Blues band. (On their second album, they were photographed standing in front of the Museum of Science and Industry.)
Their legacy is Chicago, and the Maxwell street area was their haunt, where you can still maybe catch some local buskers in this day and age. Good start though.. The rest, the Buddy Guys, BB Kings etc. were Mississippi transplants... Good, but not homegrown Chicago.

Muddy Water, Otis Rush, Buddy Guy, Little Walter. Also try some non-Chicago stuff such as Albert Collins or older stuff like Skip James, british stuff I like Robin Trower and if you like hard electric, Gary Moore is amazing (not much of a singer though), Texas style Lighten Hopkins. For me it all starts with Muddy Waters, hey don't forget Robert Nighthawk or smoother newer stuff Robert Cray and I heard Johnny Copeland for the first time (on PBS with SRV) and was very, very impressed.

What I did was 2 things:
1 - Read who influenced my favorite guitar players and then listened to them. eg One of Stevie Ray Vaughan's influences was Jimi Hendrix who was influenced by Buddy Guy etc. Just follow the line back.
2 - Sounds cheesy, but I bought compilation albums. A record label would put out a CD with a song from each of there artists. I might hate 90% (or matured enough later to appreciate them) but the 10% blew me away. Alligator Records had a series out called Genuine Houserockin' Hits that had guys like Johnny Winter, Delbert McClinton and Roy Bucchanan.
