I've always been interested in the influence of classical music on various metal genres. I'm not really talking about a band that throws a few strings or a choir behind their riffs, but those that really incorporate classical elements; arrangements, chord progressions, etc. Of all the music styles, it seems like metal (especially thrash and progressive) has the most affinity for the song structure and techniques on classical music, very ironic! Right now I'm listening to Helstar's 'Nosferatu', which I think really exemplifies this style. Any thoughts on the topic? Recommendations of other bands that fit this style?

Hey,

I've listened to this tune a lot of times without knowing it's name. The only place where i could find the song is this lousy commercial. It's the classical romantic tune last played.

I really appreciate any help.

Ok, here is my question:

Many composers often prefered not to use key signatures for good reasons (Bartok, Stravinsky, Shostakovich etc.)... there seems to be little information out there on what conventions there are regarding this problem. How does a composer decide what accidentals to use (flats, sharps, double flats/sharps) when there is no key signature? I would be forever greatful if anyone could shed light on this?

(I had asked this question before. Yahoo must have taken my question for a comment and accidentally deleted it. Unfortunately I didn't get a chance to read the responses. I appologize for having to repeat it).

Which of her albums would you recommend to a new listener. I know she has quite a few, and I'm not really sure what's a good starting point, so any help would really be appreciated.

Thanks.
