I saw it several months ago, maybe over a year ago, on either Turner Classic Movies (TCM) or American Movie Classics (AMC).
The plot is about French Foreign Legion, or regular French Army, soldiers tried for cowardice and, or, desertion in WW1. I recall that a famous actor was the main star; I believe it was made in the mid 50s or earlier, but can't say for certain that it wasn't produced later. Near the end there is a scene where a German woman sings for the French soldiers (not the ones that are court martialed). I simply cannot remember the name of the movie nor who starred in it.
P.s. Please don't make anti-French jokes, if you are so immaturely inclined. They are overdone, and I know the plot of the movie, as I remember it, fits a negative stereotype about the French. If you make such crass humor, I will report you. You have been warned.
