The seventh book in the series was always planned to be the last book in the series, wether or not Harry dies is another question.
"In December of 2005, Rowling declared on her website that "2006 will be the year when I write the final book in the Harry Potter series." Updates have since followed in her online diary chronicling the progress of this the seventh Harry Potter book, though a title and proclamation of completion have not accompanied them. Many fans speculate that the book will be published in 2007, with a particular fixation on the numerologically-significant July 7, 2007,[60] but as of July 2006 there had been no confirmation of a release date from either Rowling or her publishers."
The thing that does it for me is the prophecy (given at the end of the fifth book):
"...Neither can live while the other survives."
The prophecy, which has held true up until now makes it seem like one will triumph over the other in the end and honestly, do you think J.K. will let You-Know-Who win in the end? It can only logically follow that Harry survives the adventure.
Nonetheless, only Rowling knows the ending...

Yeah. J. K. Rowling is planning to end the series, so Harry Potter along with another character will die in the last book.

Well, I truly, truly hope he doesn't...and I know that in looking at the clues, some point to he will, some point to he won't. However, in the extras from POA DVD, Rowling had stated that the director had included a few things that inadvertently were clues to later books. In the time turner scene at the Black Lake, for example, Hermione watches the dementors go after Harry and Sirius, and she says to Harry "You're dying....both of you." I don't know if that is one of the "clues" JKR was talking about, but Sirius is gone....

I started watching the movies first then the books after the 3rd Potter movie. I really hope he doesn't get killed. He's been trough so much and it would be nice to see him have a happy ending.
But it would tie off the story.

I doubt it. That would imply that Voldemort wins, and I cannot imagine J.K. Rowling would play her fans that false. I mean, if it's a story of good versus evil, you don't get your readers loving the hero only to have the villain win! That's not playing fair.
But I have heard it said that two "important characters" are going to die in book seven. I certainly hope it is not Ron and Hermione!

My theory is that Harry will die killing Voldemort at the end of the 7th book. See mugglenet.com for other theories :)

I've also heard that Rowling is panning to kill Harry off. But how the heck is THAT going to work?? The books are named after him for pete's sake, you can't just kill him!
I really hope she changes her mind...

No one knows the answer except JK Rowling.
At least one character will die... Voldemort, for sure.
