My son is a 6 year old diabetic, he started 1st grade this past september, the school was concerned with his behavior and deffiant behavior. He had an IEP done and although he has NO learning disabilities they do susspect ADHD but can not give him that title so instead of other they titled him as Behavioral Disturbance, they do not have Special Ed in that school, but I do not agree with moving him to a sapecail ed school since he does not have any learning problems and even the teacher says that he is at level and he will be going to the second grade. Do I HAVE to put him into a school where special ed is available if I do not think that he needs it?Once again he is a type 1 diabetic and he can be a little testy depending how his blood glucose is, and they don't seem to want to understand or hear it?

students with disabilities should not be treated the same as students who do not have disabilities, and students with disabilities should not be suspended, labeled as a behavior problem, nor should they be expelled because they have a disabilities.

I mean, Asperger's does have its advantages. Like being honest, loyal, good sense of justice, special interest, wonderful ability to think using pictures, logical thinking, and treating everyone the same. Some people with autism are very spiritual(look up autism and the god connection)
Being disabled in physical ways doesn't give this. Isn't it arrogent that normal people have to say that their way of living is right and autistics' are wrong? How would they feel if we told them they are, even though they have the best social skills imaginable of all time, disabled because they don't have the advantages I stated earlier?

This question is going to P some people off,I do not blame you.I am LD and was born in 1959 and there was no decent help in my time.I was told by psychiatrists, teachers,
reading specialists and career counslors that I should
throw in the towel on my education. When I was 7 years old
in 1967 I was told I will never have a real job.I was in special ed and never masterd my reading and math skills.
I got my GED in 1989 at 29 years old,I do not see how I
did it.I never went to college,I was told I will never be able to do it.
I was told I had no one to blame but myself for my lack of success in school(I do not agree).
I was born 10(maybe 20) years too early for any decent
help.

I'm going to Hope School soon because I'm not coping in mainstream although I am said to be highly intelligent.
I have just come back from Tara and the social worker at my current school says that the people at Tara have found me out to be slightly autistic.
When I ask my mother questions about why I am going to hope school, she just says that they want me to go there but she doesn't say why.
Am I going there because the professionals at Tara believe me to be slightly autistic?
I don't know what the case is and I'm very confused.
I don't think I have this fancy disorder. I think I'm normal.

A good friend of mine has a child with an Auditory Processing Disorder, as well as Attention Deficit Disorder.

Problem is she has absolutely no income - she has 2 other children, and no time to work at the moment. She does go to Social Services, but that only covers so much.

I heard there was someplace on the internet that offers financial assistance to those with children with special needs.

Does anyone know what I'm talking about? Or am I just hallucinating this magical, mythical website?

My child has ADHD for sure (recently hospitalized for "psychiatric condition requiring treatment"). He is now back at school. Did NOT qualify for special education last year because his behavior does not affect his educational perfermance. But, his evaluation states the following:

1. "An ability to build or maintain satisfactory interpersonal relationships with peers and teachers"
2. "Inappropriate types of behavior or feelings under normal circumstances exhibited in several situations"
3. "A tendency to develop physical symptoms or fears associated with personal or school problems"
4. "A general pervasive mood of unhappiness or depression"

How can I get him to qualify???? How far does he have to fall behind to get help? Or, how bad to things need to get to get services for him?

I am asking this question for my youngest brother Joshua. He has Asperger's Syndrome, can only read on a 3rd grade level, and has a severe speach impediment. His math skills only include the most basic addition and subtraction. But give him a broken computer and in a very short time period (depending on what is wrong with it 5 minutes to 2 hours) and he will not only tell you in detail what is wrong with but he will also fix it and most likely it will work better than it ever did before. In 1994 at age 5 he fixed my alarm clock....it wakes up my household and the house next door every morning. I am asking because if he is a titled savant he will be able to get a computer related job (people are more likely to look past him twitches and moodiness if they can brag that a savant is working with them....at least in this area). What type of testing would he need to go through. Thank you for your answers.

I know there is some sort of color coded light display application/device that allows deaf people to "see" music through various colors representing notes or instruments.
-But is there anything for people who are blind and deaf?
Maybe something that utilizes bass and/or vibrations?
Pherhaps a modified braille of some sort?
