my son is now in the 8th grade. i had his iep last june at the end of the 7th grade yr. well they couldn't print it at the meeting for some reason and said they would mail it to me. well i never got it. so i waited for school to start again and requested it from the spec ed secretary. i got 9/12/07.
i compaired the 7th and 8th grade ieps and it looks like they just used 7th's as a template and added a few paragraphs. it says he is still reading at the same level (same book, same section) there are 2 paragraphs that say the exact same thing but one says he is at a 4th/5th gr reading level and the says he is at 5th/6th gr reading level. the iep is horrible written.
then the other thing is, my son was put back on meds in may. we had the iep in june. but the iep says i refuse to put him on meds. (it makes no sense) it goes on and on how i will not go to the school during school hours, which is a lie, i work 4 block away and i always tell them to schedule things around my

My 2 year old son has just been diagnosed with Autism and we are told he will need ABA therapy. I have started to check on this and it is SO expensive. The cheapest I can find here where we live in COlorado is over $1,000 a month. I just want to know how people afford this. I can not afford to do this but I cant seem to find any help in paying for this for him. I want to get him all the therapy he needs but not sure how finacially to do this. I found out that I can get Medicade to help pay for
part of it but it takes over a year to get in the system.
Untill then I feel a little lost. My insurance will pay for him to get Speech therapy but no luck with the ABA part. I hear good things about this type of therapy and how it really helps children and want to do whatever I can for him. He is so young and early intervention with therapy will really help him but not sure what to do next. Does anyone know of any financal help to get therapy for children with Autism. Any help appricated.

He is nine and not long ago a child psycologist said that though he score highly for both hyperactivity and impulsivity he did not have ADHD because he could concentrate on things he is interested in. He is bright, enthusiastic and has many interests, though frustration gets the better of him and often hinders his enjoyment of things.

Since school started, I've noticed one of my students often sticking his hand or finger down his pants to touch his "private parts". Yesterday he was lying on a soft mat in the classroom on his stomach and when he turned over, he had his shorts pulled down in front and he had an erection. I told him to pull up his pants because he isn't allowed to do that in the class. He exposed himself two more times after that. Today, he was touching himself while he was sitting at a table in the cafeteria. Then he pulled his pants down in front again and exposed himself. This doesn't seem to be an attention getting behavior. He is almost 12 so his body is going through changes--however, I don't know how to make him understand that he can only do it in private. And I can't have him exposing himself in front of other children in the cafeteria. He is nonverbal but I know he understands what is going on. I've talked to him about other issues such as pinching and he only does it more now--with a smile.

I am a first year teacher. I teach learning support and am currently teaching a social skills/study skills class. All of the students in my class have behavior problems and/or emotional disturbances, so keeping their attention for very long is near impossible. They are between the ages of 15 and 18. Does anyone have any ideas of some hands on projects that I could do with them that might be enjoyable for them. Thank you for any ideas.

The UMBRELLAS we own are too big, and I don't think the teacher would appreciate seeing UNDERWEAR. It has to be the short u (uh) sound, so that eliminates a United States map, for example. Thank you!!!

She has been in special ed since 2nd grade-she is now in 4th. She is getting caught up but she has at least another year in it to get caught up to grade level. Anyway the situation is she is in a new school this year and has been handing in all of her homework to her special ed teacher-she has 3 subjects or so with her and 1 or 2 with the regular teacher. The regular teacher called on Fri. stating that my daughter was failing spelling b/c she hadn't handed in any homework. My daughter told her it was handed into the spec. ed teacher. Instead of waiting until Mon. when the spec. ed teacher would be back the regular teacher decided to punish my daugheter explaining to her in front of her class not once but twice that she was out of all the "FUN" activities for the day. This made my daughter cry and she was humiliated in front of the class. Yesterday the reg. teacher found out she had turned in all homework to the spec. ed teacher and I said they needed to apologize to my daughter

I have an emergency IEP in the morning. My 15 year old son was suspended from school last week for gross misconduct and insubordination. He has a temper and says and does things he shouldn't. I have had him to many doctors and he has been diagnosed as ADHD, bipolar and severe emotional disturbance. He takes his medications. I don't know what else to do for him. Also don't know what to tell the school to do with him. I am a registered nurse. I can't afford residental treatment. He is much better at home now than he was 2 years ago. I used to be afraid of him. He would throw things and break things. He no longer does this. He doesn't except no for an answer. He will argue. The more he argues the more angry he gets. How can I make him see he has to except authority and respect others to succeed in life???

How long does it normally take a peaditrican to diagnose autistic spectrum disorders?
After a number of difficulties with my little boy of almost 9 years ,my GP suggested that he may have something related to the autistic spectrum disorder. He mentioned aspergers syndrome and has refered him to a local peaditrician. We are due to see him this week, will they they be able to tell us on the day if this is the case or is it usual to have a lot more tests etc. Does anyone know the procedure in the UK for this type of diagnosis
