Combo of reasons:

1. He has a terrible short-term memory.
2. He CONSTANTLY mispronounces words and has a difficult time translating thoughts into words.
3. He also has a reading problem.
4. He constantly appears to be over-whelmed, flustered and disoriented

I realize that it is normal for ANYONE to experience any of these problems every now and then. However, I feel that he has a HISTORY of struggling with these problems and it has become apart of his character and image.

(I am not trying to "defame" those who have a learning disability, but I was just curious if that could also be his diagnoses)

This an honest question and I would love your thoughtful and honest feedback!

Hes in special educaiton and has several medical problems. He is also mentally handicapped and physically handicapped. Since he began school 5 years ago they have always came to my moms house and picked him up without incident. This school year, they are asking him to walk to the end of the block and cross busy street to catch bus. There are no bss monitors out here or anything. Does this sound right? Is there any rights for handicapped children in california?

Hey guys, I'm going to be a senior in high school, and I've been looking at colleges that mainly have special education and/or speech-pathology. My brother has autism, so I kind of have a feel for working with mentally handicapped children. I've known for years that I would want to work with kids like my brother, but I kind of need some sort of background info, like someone who is already IN one of these careers or majors... so I know what I'm in for.

I'm already starting my college application process, so I don't know if i want to put down "special education" major, or "speech pathology" major.

Also, if you guys know some schools that are really good for these fields, that would be great! Thank you.

I am very much involved within the special education community. One of my friends had a question for me, and I thought I'd present it here for a broader answer. His daughter wanted to ask someone using a wheelchair to dance, but wasn't sure how that works...I've heard of holding hands and just kinda swaying. I've also seen young men who use a wheelchair have the lady sit in his lap...anybody have any other expierences with this? Ideas? Female and male perspectives both appriciated here...

The school system is telling me my son has Asperger's. He certainly has some of the characteristics, however, my husband is a tested genius and he also has the same characteristics. He did not speak until he was six, is socially and physically awkward, and processes information in a similar manner. . . The characteristics of both are amazingly similar . . . I am currently treating the social and verbal delay but am hesitant to accept A.S. diagnosis. I think the school has good intentions (and it would certainly be a financial relief to have free therapy) but want to make sure . . . Any thoughts?
