If some-one is poor at maths or arts, then that is that. So why do some people feel the need to call individuals who are poor at reading or writing dyslexic.
It has been proven, that if these people are given one to one attention they have no problem picking up these skills very quickly.
I think some people feel more comfortable, when their children are struggling with letters, to give a medical reason why "their perfect little child" is not as quick as they believe he/she should be.
Just as badly behaved children get away with A.D.H.D or obese people apparently suffer from ENHANCED APPETITE SYNDROME. We all have faults and should accept we are not perfect but please do not try to hide behind a so called medical problem.

My 10-year-old son has NVLD. He is pretty high functioning, but I worry about the near future. He is going into 5th grade, and already he has had problems with the social interactions at school. I'd love to know if anyone out there has an teenage or adult child with NVLD. How is life for your child? What advice can you give me that will help me make his future the best it can be. I don't want him to be depressed (which is common for these kids) or alone.

Thank you for any help.

I heard that there's a way to be a SPED teacher or a Resource Room Teacher without taking PRAXIS or CBEST exams as long as you have a year of experience and a professional license as a teacher in your home country. Could anyone clear this up for me?

I'm seeking a ranch or some sort of live in program for a home schooled 24 yr. old man. He has had very little social inter reaction and has poor hygiene, no routine, no manual dexterity. He needs to be trained and programmed in how to get up everyday, clean himself and go do some sort of work. He is not motivated unless it is his stomach growling or a video game he wants to buy. He also needs to take spelling, English and writing classes.Does anyone know where I can find a place that will take him and teach him something and turn him into a productive young man. He isn't crazy , just un trained.

My son is 7 years old and all academic tests revealed that he has especially advanced levels of language comprehension, mathematics,as well as logic and reasoning, highly articulate, spatial /structural pro.problem solver.Seriously I was told on two seperate occassions that he shows signs of true "Genius" On the flip side of this is the very troubling and real fact that my son is often given to mood swings, poor impulse control, skewed perceptions in social settings, bossy, critical, oppositional ,antisocial, and aggressive with peers and adults(with lack of remorse).Sadly he usually percieves others as working against him,or laughing at his difficulties,as a result he has been labeled emmotionally disturbed.his school experiences were volatile and he felt victimized when taken out of General Ed.into a dysfunctional class I have Major concerns with regard to his physical and emmotional health.advocating for his Ed. placement through IEP process any ideas? personnel@prev. site were unhelpful

I am 21 years old and when writing this question I had to look up how to spell "dyslexic" "remembering" and had to think twice about whether "am" is a real word. I am gradating in one semester and am wondering if I am dyslexic or just lazy for not remembering how to spell words. Also I have a really hard time remembering names, I don’t know if this is related.

Did you think Private Schools for LD kids in the
1960s or 70s helped these kids or was just another
dumping ground?I went to one of those schools and
they told me I will never get better and forget learning how to read and do math.I would be
lucky to get a job pumping gas. I guess no one
knew how to help kids with LD then. Whats your
take on this?

my 4 yr old is awaiting tests and my dr seems to think this is what he has. he doesnt get jokes or sarcasm and takes things so literally. he always asks queations all day long, where does the rain come from? why do we have eyebrows? how will i drive when im a star in heaven? etc etc he will keep on and on until he has the answer. he likes routine and has to be made aware of change in advance and then he can deal with it.
recently he has started to get frustrated and hits himself and has temper tantrums.. he will play with other kids but will also play by himself. his thing is cars, when we drive down the road he says thats same as nanny car, thats same as sarah car etc. if he sees car he has he points it out.
recenrtly he started saying he doesnt want me to die and be a star cos he will miss me which breaks my heart.
he also cant keep still, always fidgeting and dancing about, jumping down the stairs etc but he is not naughty. he also does vocal tics.
