Are you serious???!!!!! I am a teacher and thats life ADHD is not special ed. You teach your class and make sure that your ADHD student is on task. Give him or her a stress ball made from a balloon and flour. Allow frequent breaks, make him/her create a schedule and end of day checklist to pack up and check that he/sh follows it. Do not let the impulsive behavior interrupt your class.

Get the book (something like) Answers to questions Teachers ask about Sensory Integration Dysfunction. It's obviously not for ADHD, but will give you loads of ideas, worksheets, and charts, and ways to include the class. The child needs to move more. Ask the OT to observe, and maybe a movin sit cushion will be a huge help, as well as different pencil grips. Allow fidgit toys, and more processing time to answer a question. Always keep the child at the beginning or end of the line so there isn't too much going on all around him/her.

Don't expect perfection from ANY of your students. Remember they are children, not mini adults.

One student with ADD or ADHD??? Come on! Try having ONE student who does NOT have ADHD!!! That is what I had the last time I taught 6th grade! Treat the student with ADHD the same as you treat the other students and never let him use ADHD as an excuse for not following your directions or doing whatever you tell the other students to do.

One positive think that might work in case parents are cooperative (almost never happens!).
You may recommend them Dr.Armstrong's book about ADHD. If parents will change diet of their child and take away TV and Computer Games - there is a chance...

In other case - I do not think you can teach your class if student keeps disturbing it all the time...

So, my advice - try to get him reevaluated.

Put on paper everything that he does and the strategies/accommodations that you have tried and it did not work. Make an agreement concerning his behavior and consequences - positive mostly
If something will work - excellent. If not, try to ask for reevaluation of that student. I had such a student all the school year in my Science class. He was nice, but he never thought twice - he was endangering all my class during science experiments...
- they did reevaluation - for the next school year. Welcome on board!

If it is hard case of ADHD - you could not teach class. You may babysit your class only.

I tried a lot of things. One of the things I tried - I put a stationary bike in my class (I heard about ADHD 6th grader who started reading this way). Unfortunately, it did not work for my difficult ADHD student

Good Luck

IF the child with ADHD needs the work modified, that should be done BUT that should have no effect on how you teach the WHOLE CLASS!

You might consider to take that child apart and reevaluate him to find out if he's not faster in learning then the others and that's what make's him kind of " bored " or not paying attention. Sometimes, the child already knows the answers and can't explain this to you. Meanwhile the rest of the class needs your teaching. It may only be temporairy, and will pass.

DO NOT AT ANYTIME REQUIRE RITALIN! A teacher teaches students. They are not supposed to prescribe dangerous medications.

well when working with a child who is add or added you have to think in your head that they get bored very fast. so why don't you try to gear your lesson towards the tactile and kinesthetic learning because they like to do things hands on so why not make your lessons hands on it will work way better if you do it this way because making them just sit there isn't going to work because their attention span is short so gear a lesson to hands on and i bet it will get better
