my friend is looking for an fm system to use on his job as an interpreter/aid for a middle school. for some reason the school does not provide them maybe because they have already helped furnish him with a hearing aid. I appreciate any help with this.

This is strange because school districts are not legally bound to purchase amplification equipment for students, which includes hearing aids. The parents are legally responsible for this...and medical insurance sometimes covers the cost.

If your friend wants an FM system for his student...it should first of all benefit this student, not the adult,..and it should be brought to the CSE committee meeting...from there the committee decides what to purchase...and a district DOES purchase FM systems. If the annual meeting has passed, have your friend call the Director of Special Education at the school and discuss having another meeting to discuss an FM system. Have your friend prepared to fight for the purchase and really prove that this student will benefit from it. FM systems are expensive and districts hesitate to buy them unless they will provide academic success in the classroom.

He can contact the school district's department of deaf education and ask them.
