I am a 23 year old college student earning a degree in Child Dev. Administration hoping to one day open my own preschool. For one of my classes, I am currently researching Advocacy & the way in which it can affect current issues & policies of child care.

Having worked in many child care & education environments, I share the frustration with others in the issue of LOW wages of child care teachers & aids. People in this position often make only minimum wage & are expected to put in hours comparable to those of jobs which pay MUCH more...

Turnover rates in Child Care & Education Environments are not only high- they are growing...Teachers who love to teach children & aid in their education are growing more & more frustrated because they can barely afford to live on what they are paid...

As the popular saying goes, "Parents can't afford to pay, Teachers can't afford to stay...There's got to be a better way..."

What do you think can be done to help advocate for wage increases

There is a preschooler (5yrs old) where I volunteer at that bosses everybody around. He loves telling his classmates and even the teachers what to do. For example, if he is playing with a friend at the block center, he would tell him to do this and do that and he would actually control the conversation between them two. I am noticing this from him too often in different types of situations. Can anyone suggest effective approaches for this type of behavior?

The Q is How you set up activities to help children learn the most & effective types of activities in toys, equipment and experience.

Q2 How to lay out furniture and equipment to make the best use of space and help children gain access to play & learning activities.

Q3 The use of everyday routines to support play & learning.

I was wondering if anyone had any ideas. My 4 1/2 boy was booted out of a public school program for 3-4 year olds. It seems he was missbehaving and the teachers could not handle him. He went for 3 weeks, 4 days a week, a full day. His teacher would call me each Thursday and I would have to suck up the embarassment and go pick him up. We punnished him at home buy taking away all of his privilages, but nothing seemed to work. School is going to start again soon and I was wondering if anyone had any ideas on how I can get him ready.

I actually have to force him to ask for what he wants. He understands and follows instructions (when he wants). Is there any way to motivate him to speak??

My little girl seems much more advanced than all of her friends, even though deep down im proud I would never say it 2 my friends, its just her speech is way ahead, I know 5 yr olds that dont speak as well as her. How can I really tell, is there some kind of intelligent test I can do with her, or what should she be doing at this age, thankyou

Any suggestions

I found one for $30 but I would like to find something a little cheaper, it has all activites for fine motor skills for toddlers, I saw one and LOVED it but can't seem to find anything like it... here is an example, http://www.lakeshorelearning.com/IWCatProductPage.process?Merchant_Id=1&Catalog_Id=1&Product_Id=8396&RememberCatalogId=1&Status_Code=ACTV&uniq=2006yr%3A12mth%3A20day%3A16hr%3A31min%3A29s%3A797ms%3A+
I will get this one if nobody knows of anything cheaper but anyone have any other ideas?

My son is waiting to be assessed for dyspraxia but his doctors think it is very likely,he is 4 1/2 and still cant speak,he has been seeing a speech and language therapist since he waas around 2 but still no great progress has been made and we are now teaching him makaton.he will be starting a special school in august and hopefully with the help and support he`ll receive there he will make some improvement.

I have asked several professionals if he will speak and they`re answers are always rather vague,so i was just wondering if he will ever speak and i`m starting to feel rather anxious now, advice apreciated, thankyou.

My friend’s child is in kindergarten, but the school only offers half-day programs.

She is concerned about his reading, and work with him at home, but would like additional help.
He has sight words, and can say each sound, but not put them together. (ruh-…-ah-…-t) for “rat.”
He gets books sent home to read, but cannot read the books yet.

What are some ways to help him?
