My 4 year old son already knows the multiplication table, can add and subtract in the hundreds, and just loves math and numbers. His teachers in a Montessori school are doing a great job nurturing his love for math as well.

As a parent, what can I do to help him and nurture his passion for numbers? Any recommendations as to books or websites I can use?

Thanks for your advice

What age do most public school Pre-K classes take? What is the minimum and is there a birthday cut-off like Sept. 1 or something? How many kids are typically in a class? Did your child benefit from Pre-K? Any additional info about Pre-K would be appreciated.

By the way, I live in West Virginia if anyone has any info specific to WV.

Thanks!

I am fighting the battle of whether to sent my son to a Private Christian School or to a Montessori School. He will be 4 this March which means he will be attending Pre-K. I have been reading up about the Montessori style of teaching. And I am afraid I will began to have disipline problems out of him from being in an environment that is not structured. Just looking for some comments from parents who has chosen that style of teaching over traditinal for there kids.

My son is Jordan is starting pre kindergarten next year. I've been working on teaching him to write his name and I was told that the letter J is now written without the line across the top. Is that true? Have any other letters changed?

The child develope center that I work at allows the children to have choices through out the day. When we have circle time, if they choose not to come, then they dont have to, it's their choice, no matter what group time you might try to have, they dont have to come and partisipate., but on the other hand the consequence for not partisipating, will be taking away some of their outside play time, but what do that matter because you can only take away 5 minutes out of 45minutes. The curriculum we use is called Creative Curriculum, so I find that actually doing planning for the week is not easy because you'll basiclly be teaching them the same thing over and over. I thought that I found away around by putting things in the room to draw their attention to other areas, but because I did that, it wasnt their own imagination, and now my job is on the line.....I only wanted to teach because that is what I do. Teach.! Any suggestions from child care providers who has been in shoes?

I have a little girl who is turning 5 in a couple of weeks. She knows all of her letters and most of her sounds. She is very serious about learing how to read. She decided she wanted to do this herself (she is only in preschool). She is very prould when she remembers the word. However, because she is so young she doesn't remember all of them and gets frustrated. Do you have any advice on how to keep her encouraged? And, any advice on ways to teach her to read? What worked for you?

My daughter attends a child development center on campus of the junior college I attend. The quality of care and the teachers is excellent, but I'm not sure what she should be doing education-wise at this age. The center utilizes the High/Scope curriculum, which from what I have learned, is child-directed. Does this mean the teachers do not lead lessons on basic things like numbers and letters? Obvioulsy, I will talk to the teachers at her center...I'm mainly curious what she is capapble of learning at this age?
