Question for elementary teachers. Has the letter J changed?

My son is Jordan is starting pre kindergarten next year. I've been working on teaching him to write his name and I was told that the letter J is now written without the line across the top. Is that true? Have any other letters changed?

It depends on what writing system his school uses. I learned to write with the Zaner-Bloser system, but kids around here learn with the D'Nealian system. It makes the transition into cursive writing a little easier. Check with your school system to see what they use.

Well some people deliberately miss the line on the top because they are short of time or it doesn't suit their style but all to my knowledge there has been no change in the letter J. Probably his teacher or a friend must have quickly written the J on the board so he must have been confused.
I really do not think the there are any other letters who have changed.

When my mom was little they used the Palmer system of writing. When I was little they used the reinhart system. I think the reason is your school might be using a different system. I think that it is crazy to use so many different systems. If a kid moves from one city to the next he could be using a different system. This is confusing for little ones.

Different schools in different ares have their own thing going on now in doing LETTERS!
I would check with the school area he will be attending!!

This sort of thing is all stylistic, and should be the least of concerns. I always write my "upper case" "E" as a lower case Greek Epsilon.
