Do Dyspraxic children ever speak??

My son is waiting to be assessed for dyspraxia but his doctors think it is very likely,he is 4 1/2 and still cant speak,he has been seeing a speech and language therapist since he waas around 2 but still no great progress has been made and we are now teaching him makaton.he will be starting a special school in august and hopefully with the help and support he`ll receive there he will make some improvement.

I have asked several professionals if he will speak and they`re answers are always rather vague,so i was just wondering if he will ever speak and i`m starting to feel rather anxious now,advice apreciated,thankyou.

Yes, mine did...she's still rather stilted and needs prompting, but it did happen.
I would suggest that if no progress has been made in two years to change speech paths. You may feel loyal, but your son's progress in most important in this. They should be trying several different programs.
We used some sign language, although ASL since we live in the US and we thought that would be more functional if it did remain her primary means of communication. WE also used picture exchange communication system (PECS), from Pyramid Consultants. Those two things helped her make a lot of progress (she is a very visual learner) Preschool also helped a lot, although higher grades caused a lot of speech regression.

my cousin has dyspraxia allthought speech was an issue when he was young hes now in his twentys and his speech is fine he was about 10 before i could understand him this summer hes off round europe with freinds i know every child is different but i hope this gives you some encourgement for the future

yes they do my son was less than 2 when he started speaking and my daughter was 2 1/2 but remained in speech therapy till she was in 5th grade.
