Friedrich Froebel looked at the value of play and is considered to have invented kindergarten. John Dewey is considered the father of pragmatism. I would agree with Piaget. His definition of cognitive development is very interesting and the stages are extremely beneficial in learning about young children and those stages are the Sensory Motor stage, Preoperational stage, Concrete operational stage, and formal operational stage. If you understand these stages of development and the children you teach it is so much easier to determine the needs of children. He also categorized types of knowledge; social, arbitrary knowledge, physical knowledge and logical knowledge. While children obtain social knowledge from others through social interactions, they construct physical and logical knowledge as they experiment with objects and manipulate materials. Hats of to Piaget!!!!
