Hello;
We all have heard of listening to music and it's various impacts. Such as:
- Listening to classical music while you study, promotes learning?!
- Don't listen to any music while you study, it causes you to loose concentration?!
etc... does anyone have a scientific answer as to:
- Listening to music promotes learning?
- Does this apply to certain age group?
- Does this apply to certain type of music, such as Classical
- If you say classical, can you narrow it down since classical has a fairly wide spectrum.

Thanks!

Lighter hair colors, which started as rare mutations, became popular for breeding, and numbers increased dramatically, according to the research, published under the aegis of the University of St. Andrews. ... However, the future of the blond is uncertain.

A study by the World Health Organization found that natural blonds are likely to be extinct within 200 years because there are too few people carrying the blond gene. According to the W.H.O. study, the last natural blond is likely to be born in Finland during 2202.

What do you think?

Don't forget to name it. Giving the name of any schools is up to you.

Appropriately, this is my first-ever question for Y. A.... and (I just realized) I should add it has nothing to do with my name. :-)

I keep seeing people do this?
Or saying, "tell me what you think about so and so?"
Or, "I need your opinion?"

I'm tempted to answer, "I don't know, *do* you need my opinion?"

A ? isn't mandated on every sentence just because you are seeking information. Its purpose is to show when a sentence is a question.

Like other rules of grammar, it's to clarify your message! Don't even get me started on other common mis-use online, such as capitalization, and periods where ?'s SHOULD be used.

As an example, "I was wondering what you think about this..." is not a question. It is a statement, telling us you were wondering. A ? is therefore not the right punctuation mark; a period is.

I'm not an English teacher or student, but I have a strong urge to smack each of you on the back of the hand with a ruler.

I m in a little bit of grammar dilemma. My friend thinks that I should not say 'Mr. X is not picking up the phone' cuz that would mean Mr. X is not lifting or picking up the phone set itself from the table, counter or wherever it is sitting. In other words, picking up would literally mean the action of picking up. Am I incorrect in thinking that literal meaning of pick up in this example doesnt apply here?
