Even if you don't go to college now, you can always go to college later. The door to the opportunity to go to college never closes! However, may I suggest that you consider going part-time? 4 years is a long time, so that if you ever decide to go to college in the future, you will cut down on the time that it takes to graduate. If you decide not to get a degree in the future, you haven't wasted much of your time in the week, if you are just going part-time. It doesn't have to be an all-or-nothing decision, after all.

After High School I worked for about a year, ran into a 30+ year old man that didn't go to college and was making about 12 bucks an hour. His wife worked at Mac Donalds....

Thats when I decided I needed to get higher education. I went to a community college and realized I couldn't stand the thought of going to a 4 year college. I enlisted in the Air Force.

Basically got an associates degree in electronics and some great job experience.

I do well financially having made between 40 and 60k since I was 24 but lack the 4 year degree to go higher.

My Advice: Knock out school as soon as you can, THEN you will have plenty of time to follow your dreams.

If you are 18 years old and want to be a professional model and fashion merchandiser, go for it. Give yourself a timetable. If in say 2 years, you have not made progress in your achieving your goal, you can always go to college after that.

Too many people give up on their dreams, and if you can't chase after them when you are 18, you certainly can't go it when you are 40 or 50.

You can do both! You should go to a 4 year school in a major city (NY, LA, etc) and major in fashion merchendising. Parsons School of Design in NYC is an awesome college.
You can stay in school and try to find some modeling work on the side - you'll be in a prime location to break into the business. Then you can decide which one will be more lucrative - modeling or merch.

Why don't you take online classes right now and work on your dream as well, that's a little more independent....and then if it doesn't work out in 2 years after you have an associate from a 2 year college....then you can transfer to a four year...and if it does work out you still have some education behind you.

Why not do both? If you want to be a fashion merchandiser, that sounds like you'd need some business sense. At least you need to take some business courses while pursuing your dream.

Anything worth having must still be worked for. You can follow your dreams but remember you will have to work hard for whatever you choose.

Take a year to figure out things, Find out who YOU are before you decide on a career. You may change your mind in a few months and decide to be a vet or a clown or a race car driver. Decide who you are, try many things before you choose. You have one life...enjoy it and don't be too quick to settle. You don't want to be 10 years down the road and hate your job. Take it from one who knows. I spent too many years in a job that I wanted, but didn't enjoy. Now, I am working in a small elementary school and loving it. Sure, I'm not making a million dollars, but I'm happy.

College will always be there. If you believe in yourself, pursue your dreams. You only live once!!! And college does not always guarantee the successful happy life we dream of. Take some classes part time while you set your plan in motion. But be consisitent on striving for your goals!

Go for your dreams! You want to be happy right? And if it doesn't work out, college will always be there no matter what! So go for it! Good luck!

If you can go to college, go. There is nothing wrong with being able to fall back on a bachelor's degree or even a certificate.
