Many of the slaves that came to America were sold into slavery by other Africans. Slavery went on long before it was a part of American history, and still goes on today in Third World countries.
It goes to show that skin color doesn't matter, that we're all human, and as humans we can be pretty un-evolved and low if we choose to be. People around the world are greedy and uncompassionate and will do almost anything to each other for money.
Of course what will stop slavery is when human rights, civil rights and economic power are granted to everyone, and that means men and women equally, and also to all races equally. Those who are lower on the power scale have to keep fighting for their rights, since power is always taken, never given.
Hope this helps. Cheers, K (teacher and traveler who has yet to go to Africa but wants to)

Yeah, back when tribes in Africa fought, the losers became slaves. If you want to say they started it go right ahead, but it's not like someone was sitting down one day and thought out this great scheme for making people do work for them. After a tribe was defeated they had to pay up, mostly coming in the form of human labor or slaves, whatever you want to call it. Even with that being said, who knows if that practive even started in Africa, it could have started somewhere else hundreds of years before or at the same time.

Not to make anyone angry, but it is said that they sold their people for food and money. That's not necessarily all of it. Yes, some people just took them by force and made them slaves but some were bought and sold.
I would say it was a combination of the two. Not to mention, blacks are not the only ones who have been slaves.

If you are talking about slavery of black people, yes. It was wide spread in Africa, just as it was in other parts of the world. Here's one of many articles about it.

I know you haven't been taught this, but most slavery perpetrated by people of European origin was against other white people. In other words, most of the slaves of white people have always been white. Black (and other non-white) slaves were real, but only took up a couple hundred years of white history. In Europe and America, most slaves were white.

Slavery has been known since antiquity. Older references to it appear in the Old Testament. Since the lands mentioned are in the mid-east and Africa, this "notion" is quite old and quite common.

No, haven't heard of it. Who knows who started it. Every race has held another slave at some point in time. It's true, and it's still happening around the world today.

They are probably referring to the fact that (a couple hundred years ago) stronger Africans captured weaker (or slower, or unluckier) Africans and sold them to the intercontinental slave traders. Life can be very cruel.
