Like most Americans, Superman is an immigrant but an exceptional one. As many immigrants come from foreign countries by earthly transportation, Superman crash-lands on earth from another planet in his rocket ship. As a result immigrants and Superman become part of American, and both must follow the edifying behavior. However, Superman attains them well. Engle points out that his superpowers are “equivalent” to cultural characteristics that make immigrants stand out. In addition, many foreign settlers have dual personalities: one for their public persona, the other for their private life, to integrate little by little in their communities. Therefore, Superman simulates fragility and human characteristics to the public as Clark Kent. At home, he reveals his powerful and heroic character as Superman, utilizing a costume to protect his "human" identity. Altogether, immigrants and this heroic figure have new identities in their lives to assimilate into the American society.
