For one, it's spelled "Hughes". But that's okay.
1) He lived in Harlem, New York.
2) He dropped out of college.
3) He lived in mexico for awhile, at the expense of his father.
4) He worked as a sailor before becoming a writer.
5) Several people mistook him for a mexican, because he had somewhat light skin and wavy hair. However, each time he proudly stated he was black, or "a *****".
6) He was voted "Class Poet" in hgh school.
7) I got all this from his autobiography, "The Big Sea".
