can someone help me solve this math puzzle please?
it's due tomorrow, and i totally don't get how to do it.
so if someone can help, i'd appreciate it a lot :)
okay:
you have your math and science book open. you notice that the even page number showing in the science book is half of the even page number showing in the math book. With that, the sum of the four visible page numbers is 926. What page numbers are showing in your math book??

haha i find that soo confusing.
but can someone help me do it???
thankssss :)

Start with the math book since it is the smallest. X is going to be your unknown for your even page number. X+1 is going to be your page number for the odd page. Add the two together and that's 2X+1. With the science book, your even page number is twice what the science book page number is, so that's 2X. The odd page number would be 2X+1. Add the two together and that gives you 4X+1. The page number total is 926, so your equation is going to be (2X+1) + (4X+1)=926. You are trying to find the value of X, so we'll solve the equation.

(2X+1) + (4X+1) = 926
6X+2 = 926
6X = 924
X=154

Okay, now we go back and substitute. If X=154, then the first page in the science book is 154. The odd page number is X+1, or 155. In the math book, the even page number is 2X, or 308. The odd page number is 2X+1, or 309. Add them together and you get:

154
155
308
309
------
926

Hope that helps- J

Guess and check works well. Anyway, the answer is the page numbers are 154, 155, 308, and 309. 154 x 2 = 308; 154 + 155= 309; 308 + 309= 617; 309 + 617= 926. This leaves the pages for the math book to be 308 and 309.

math pages 308 and 309
science pages 154 155

308+309+154+155= 926

926-2= 924

924/3 = 308

308/2= 154

308+1
154+1

This is the closest i could get. One is Page 154, and the other is Page 155 for the science book, and page 308, and 309 for the math book. The answers goes off in decimals but it is very close. BTW we did this in our 8th grade class too, allittle diffrent though.

well... think, let the even page in the science book be x.
then the odd page would be x+1.
The math even page would be 2x
and the math odd page 2x+1
so your equation would be x+x+1+2x+2x+1=926
and from there on try to figure it out...
