I'm actually a foreign language major (Spanish), and I my degree does not require calculus. I took pre-calculus about 4 years ago, and I made A's and B's, although that was at a community college and not a four-year college, like I'm currently attending. Today was the first day back to classes, and it didn't seem to hard, because alot of the material seemed to reflect a lot of what I had studied in Pre-calculus.

However, I'm somewhat worried about taking 18 credit hours. I'm afraid that doing so might take away from my time studying the area of my major, Spanish, which has been and continues being very challenging for me.

Should I just try and "stick it out" in Calculus I this semester, or should I drop it in order to focus on my major studies? I don't work, but it does take me a little bit longer to finish my homework because I tend to read at a somewhat slower pace than many of my fellow students.

If I major in English, would History be a good minor? I may end up teaching, so I was thinking that the minor might allow me to get two teaching certs. But I'm also wondering if it would help in other potential careers. Any thoughts on that major/minor combination?

I took my GRE exam today. My weak side was English and my strong side I thought was Math. Apparently, the grade I got was very Shocking. I got 370 in Math and 350 in English. When I took the exam, Math did not seem hard at all and I was expecting a 450+. My GPA is only 2.7. I know I should re take my GRE, but as of know what are the chances of getting into an ok Graduate School?

At my age, I'm embarrassed to admit that I can't remember the rules of division (although I've never been good at math). My question is when I'm dividing, how do I know when to add another zero above the dividing bracket? For example, I am converting 104.9 degrees Fahrenheit to Celsius. So to do that, I take 104.9-32=72.9/1.8=40.5C. I know this is the right answer because my book says it is, but the answer I got was 45, because I didn't add another zero above the bracket when I was dividing 72.9 by 1.8 - how do I know when to do this? I know this is elementary, but I can't seem to get it. If someone could explain the rules in easy-to-understand terms, I would appreciate it very much.

It's something like 'If you don't know what something is, you'd be more of a fool to criticize it than praise it.' Basically, if somebody's talking about something you don't know about, don't try to show off your knowledge by criticizing it, do it by praising it, if you have to... It was something like that.

I'm pretty sure it's a Mark Twain quote. It MAY be an Einstein quote. (They're both white fuzzy haired American person...maybe I got them confused?)
