Did you find that their requirements were very strict? I have lousey credit and one former arrest from 8 yrs ago (no prior convictions though). But I'm VERY good at what I do. Well, I was not hired after 2 months of grueling interviews, letters of recommendation, questions about my family, my age, a background check, questions about prior criminal activity, etc....and told they decided on another candidate by the HR person.

Well I was careerbuilder.com this morning and the university is still advertising the opening. So I called them and they are still taking applications! Weeks ago, when asked why I wasn't hired or what I could do to strengthen my candidacy, they wouldn't give me any direct answers. I was only told they had several extremely qualified candidates to apply (myself included) and that they are looking for the right fit. They also said, they did not do a background check on me, that they decided not to proceed with my application. Why lie about hiring someone else?

Society has a tendency to examine the rich and upper class. The general public is always curious as to how the aristocrats are acting and why they are acting that way. Sometimes it is as if the affluent live under society’s microscope. It is no different for Emily Grierson, a high-born citizen, in William Faulkner’s short story, “A Rose for Emily.” Emily is busy most of her life living up to her father’s and society’s standards that she is unable to form her own identity. William Faulkner uses symbolism, imagery and foreshadowing to explain the overall theme of how lonely life can become when one fails to form his or her own identity, and is forced to live in modern society’s culture.

Before anyone gets upset, please read on. I am looking at this topic from a social justice standpoint (not talking about discussing what happens behind a bedroom door). I have witnessed bad behavior by students that could be corrected with education. As many of you know this is a topic that many teachers stay away from either because of their personal beliefs or they fear what parents might say or do. What do you think? Should gay and lesbian issues be taught in schools? How would you teach it? What are gay and lesbian issues?

I wrote an email to my boss the other day and added a P.S. in, after the main point of the email, but before my signature. My boss wrote me back and told me that a P.S. belongs after the signature. I always thought P.S. to mean "post script" which, in my case, would mean it was fine to put it where I did. My boss said it is is "post signature" which would then make her assessment accurate. Which is it, for all the great scholars out there!!
