Figure out what public university you will want to transfer to ahead of time. Make sure your classes will be accepted there, and what courses will be required. Many in-state universities have agreements on course exchange that you might not find if you go out of state. The architecture department at the public university would be happy to provide you with that info. Your community college should be able to tell you which required classes they offer from that list. It is a little more work initially, but totally worth it. That is a cheap way to get the gen eds out of the way. I recently graduated with my BS Arch after starting the community college route. It can be done, and for so much less.

Good luck!

yes, there are classes that all freshmen have to take, like English, math, PE, etc., and you can take them at the community college level. make sure your community college has an understanding with a 4 year school so your credits will transfer. the CC might also have classes in architecture to get you started. talk to a guidance counselor, either at your high school or at one of the colleges you hope to attend.

Of course, you can do all the general education classes done at the community college. Go to assist.org to find out what your transfer university requires for your major, and talk to the counselor at the community college. You will save lots of money that way.
