Code of Ethics in Journalism?

How did it get started? When did it start to be active?

However, I did not find any "start dates". Journalism ethics are useful form of self regulation, which can keep outside agencies (such as the government) from interfering with the freedom of the press and the public's right to information.

Although the article does not state a time and place for the first code of ethics, it is easy to believe that informal codes have existed since the beginning of the press...to protect publishers from arrests, law suits, and violating the moral standards of the individual and readers.

Many journalism organizations have them. Google "code of ethics" + journalism and you'll see a number of them, which have been around for years if not decades.

There might be networks that have this code but I'm sure its ignored just look at the how under reported miss reported or slanted reporting is. As with anything they probably talk about how honesty on time etc goes.

Thou shalt not plagiarize and thou shalt not report thine sources to the government. Thou shall use reliable sources.
